ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Will Likely Finish Its Global Box Office Run With Under $500M

The latest box office updates are in, and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania's shrinking returns don't bode well for the Marvel Studios threequel's final worldwide cume...

After a typically strong opening, Marvel Studios' Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania suffered the biggest second-week drop in the history of the MCU, and the Peyton Reed-directed threequel never managed to recover.

In its fourth week on general release, Quantumania grossed an estimated $9.8M internationally, for an overseas total of $249.6M. Worldwide, the movie now sits at $447.6M.

As things stand, Marvel's first Phase 5 film is expected to finish its box office run with around $475M - $490M, making it the lowest earner of the Ant-Man franchise.

Some analysts have been attempting to put a positive spin on this ("it's just an Ant-Man movie, not an Avengers-level event!"), but there's no getting away from how disappointing this performance is.

Many major studio blockbusters tend to be critic proof, but that hasn't proven to be the case for the MCU (Eternals also underperformed), with negative reviews and poor word-of-mouth clearly impacting ticket sales.

Much better news for Paramount and Spyglass's Scream VI, which scared up a franchise-best $44.5 million opening weekend (you can check out our review here).

Have you been to see Ant-Man 3? If so, are you surprised by these numbers? Drop us a comment down below.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Janet van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), and Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang (Kathryn Newton), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought possible.

Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard, Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania also stars Jonathan Majors as Kang, David Dastmalchian as Veb, Katy O'Brian as Jentorra, William Jackson Harper as Quaz and Bill Murray as Lord Krylar.

@bobevanz - This and Love and Thunder have been the most divisive MCU films of all time. I think the regular haters + fanboys + legitimate neutral fans all universally hated both films.

The MCU is imploding and it sucks to watch, but it’s a necessary evil if Marvel/Disney are to open their eyes and realize that they’ve turned off a lot of the audience with a lot of the goofy things they’ve prioritized in phase 4 and onward.

@Lilvic92 - I enjoyed the movie and I agree with your opinion.

They need to feel where it hurts to get their shit together.

@Lilvic92 - The sad part is, I don't think they are learning the right lessons. Casuals no longer care about these movies as much and they are turning away a large part of the hardcore fanbase. I wouldn't be surprised if the trend of declining box office for comic movies continues.

@Lilvic92 - “another financial success, lil under 500 mil is exactly what we were shooting for, we love that people are loving Ant Man 3, such a great achievement.” - Kevin Feige and Bob Iger probably.

@Lilvic92 - One of the main reason is there's hardly any re-watchbility (if that's even a word?) in these movies even for kids. It was similar back in the days too but at least adult die-hard fan bois would watch those movies multiple times in the theaters.

Movies don't get to make close to or over a billion with just one viewing and people are turning away from watching these CGI crapefest plotholes filled lame stories even for the first time let alone going to theater again and again for same BS.

@Fogs -
Sadly they'll learn the wrong lessons. At the moment they are claiming the problem is 'sequels and not enough diverse new characters'

@Scarilian - then the downfall will get steeper. Money talks and it will in this case as well.

@dragon316 - Even though it’s not a popular opinion around here with some of the loudest voices, Captain Marvel was a much better movie than this. I still don’t get all the hate that Brie Larson gets.

@RolandD - She was unlikable as Carol Denvers - the oposite of what the character was in the comics.
Think how likeable the Shazam character was in the movie or how nice Captain America was.
If she was going through her alcoholism phase, it would have been a good performance, but it wasn't.
I blame the director though, as she was likable in Avengers: Endgame.

@MarvelZombie616 - I found her likable I’m CM.

@MarvelZombie616 - It wasn't just that she was unlikable. It was that the character herself was badly-written by people who think that for a female character to be strong that must mean that they are perfect, without flaws, and so much better and smarter and stronger than the men around her who only exist to try to tear her down or keep her from being successful.

It's like... the best way I can describe it is it creates a kind of "uncanny valley" for character development. She has nowhere to go to develop the character, because the character is perfect. Things happen TO HER, but she doesn't improve, because she's perfect, she just has to realize she's perfect.

This is why Woke writers are the worst. They cannot write a convincing woman or minority character, or even a convincing white male character, because they all reflect the Woke writer's warped view of the world.

@RolandD - I don’t know how or why this became about captain marvel but I didn’t have any issues with that movie. It’s pretty much an average mcu flick. Just got more hate because people don’t like. Brie Larson.

@Taonrey - Did they forget this movie has only been out for three weeks? Ant-Man and Ant-Man and the Wasp were both in theatres for 25 weeks.
TheOtherOn

@dragon316 - Craptain Marvel made billion because of the release timing being the next movie after major cliffhanger ending of Infinity War , just like Iron-Man 3 that came right after the mega hit first Avengers.

Craptain Marvel was first MCU movie I walked out somewhere half way in and haven't finished watching yet.
