ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA Spoilers: How A Truly Bizarre Take On M.O.D.O.K. Factors Into The Movie

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania features the big-screen debut of the villainous M.O.D.O.K., and the character is... quite something! Find out how he factors into the story right here...

We've known for a while now that Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania would introduce a version of megalomaniacal comic book villain M.O.D.O.K., but the character's identity and how he factors into the plot may still be considered a spoiler, so if you haven't seen the movie yet, best not to read on.

Spoilers follow!

Scott Lang and his allies encounter the "Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing" ("that's really M.O.D.O.F.K.") when they arrive in the Quantum Realm and land on Kang's radar. It's not long before he unmasks and reveals himself to be the first Ant-Man's villain, Darren Cross, who somehow survived as a... giant head with baby arms and legs.

Kang discovered Cross after he was banished to the Quantum Realm, kitted him out with tech, and made him his henchman. Towards the end of the film, Cassie (Kathryn Newton) tells Darren to stop being a dick, so he does (if only she'd said that to Kang, eh?), and sacrifices himself to defeat his master and save the day.

He dies in comedic fashion, thanking Scott for allowing him to go out as an Avenger.

We can see M.O.D.O.K. being one of the most divisive aspects of a highly divisive movie. Actor Corey Stoll's massive CG face looks ridiculous, which is absolutely the point, but still more than a little distracting. Some fans are also sure to take issue with how the villain is utilized, and we'll be very interested to see how those unfamiliar with the character react!

To be fair, very few of the jokes land in Quantumania, and ol' Darren is good for at least a chuckle or two. But again, your mileage may vary in that regard.

Could we see M.O.D.O.K. again? He certainly appears to perish, but that doesn't mean he couldn't be brought back if Marvel Studios decided fans wanted more of him. The character does have potential (Hulu's animated series was a riot despite only running for a single season), so we'll just have to wait and see how audiences respond.

What did you guys make of M.O.D.O.K. in Ant-Man 3? Drop us a comment down below.

Saw the movie last night! Loved it! Was a lot of fun and the Quantum Realm was a breath of fresh air! Ant-Man definitely got his time to shine in this movie! Love Jonathan Majors as Kang!

I definitely want an Ant-man 4 movie, as long as Louis provides his exposition on all the crazy shit that went down in 3, and that definitely has to include Modok!

But seriously, I know this movie is meant to set up the new phase and the Kang dynasty and pick up on the notions of the multi-verse previously explored in Doctor Strange and Loki… but I really feel that Ant-man works best in a more small scale (No pun intended) situation, less cosmic calamities and time space wars with universal or galactic consequences.

I don’t expect Scott to run around busting shoplifters and bike thieves thieves as an Avenger who helped save the world and defeat Thanos, but I would have liked to have seen more of the aunt family involved in something less large scale, something that takes it back to being a bit of a heist, movie and being able to play off from and enjoy the inter-play of several other characters,

@CaptainAustralia - I would definitely pay to see an Aunt-Man movie.

As far as the morphed-face is concerned; was it due to them WANTING the audience to recognize him as being Darren Cross from the first-movie or simply due to constraints on the CGI-budget itself??? 🤨

@SuperiorHeckler - No idea... I think maybe they were going for a silly, OTT design, but either way, it didn't work for me at all.

"He dies in comedic fashion, thanking Scott for allowing him to go out as an Avenger."

So are we just calling anyone that shows up during a fight an Avenger now?

@CorndogBurglar - No, it's a gag... he's completely delusional. It's kinda funny. Ish. Prob the only chuckle it got out of me anyway.

@CorndogBurglar -

I found his death really funny. The guy is delusional but switches sides towards the end because Cassie has a talk with him. She tells hime to stop being a dick and it's never too late to stop being a dick and he has a change of heart and turns on Kang.

The film was terrible and modok CGI was bad but he was kinda funny🥲

@CorndogBurglar - it's more a testament to his deteriorated mindset which the first Ant-man touched upon.
