Jonathan Majors Appeared Via Zoom For Assault Case Hearing; Could Face Up To A Year In Prison

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star Jonathan Majors made his first court appearance (via Zoom) for his ongoing assault case, and his attorney has released another statement...

Jonathan Majors, who was arrested last month after allegedly assaulting a female companion, made his first court appearance on Tuesday morning via Zoom regarding the status of the case.

The conference was reportedly very brief, and the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania star didn't have much to say. The judge discussed a motion filed by Majors’ defense team that the prosecution has until May 23 to respond to. The actor is due to appear in court on June 13, when a decision will be made regarding said motion. If he fails to turn up, a warrant can be issued for his arrest within 48 hours.

If Majors is found guilty, he could face up to a year behind bars or a three-year probation term.

Majors' lawyer, Priya Chaudhry, is still adamant that her client did nothing wrong, and is now claiming that he is a victim of "racial bias."

“We have provided the District Attorney with irrefutable evidence that the woman is lying, including video proof showing nothing happened, especially not where she claimed,” she said in a statement (via Deadline). “We did this with the explicit promise from the DA that they would not 'fix' their case and change it as we proved the woman is lying.”

“This is a witch hunt against Jonathan Majors, driven by baseless claims,” Chaudhry added, citing a glaring double standard. “Instead of dismissing the allegations in the face of the woman’s clear lies, the DA has adjusted the charges to match the woman’s new lies. To be clear, there are no new charges against Mr. Majors.”

Though she didn't provide any details, Chaudhry is also claiming to have more evidence that will ultimately exonerate Majors.

"Now, we have obtained even more video evidence of his innocence, but we are hesitant to share it, for fear the DA will tip the woman off to change her story again. The criminal justice system is saturated with explicit and implicit bias. When Mr. Majors showed a white police officer the injuries the woman caused him, the white officer got in Mr. Majors’ face and taunted him, saying that if the officer were to slap Mr. Majors, the officer wouldn’t break his finger. None of the white officers present investigated the assault of Mr. Majors. Worse, the District Attorney has not indicated any intention to pursue charges against the woman, or even investigate the truth."

Majors has already been dropped from several high-profile projects, but Marvel Studios has yet to take any action or comment on the situation. There are rumors that Kevin Feige and co. are looking into potential Kang replacements, but that's yet to be confirmed.

If we went off everything Majors defense attorney has said, he would’ve had this cleared months ago.

Another month of waiting for any follow-up.

@regularmovieguy - something tells me they have no defense, and they're patiently waiting to settle in June.

If that were truly the case, and they knew for a fact that they were going into an already lost battle, why wouldn't they have made said evidence public , in prder to at the very least be able salvage Majors' name in the court of public opinion?

@DrReedRichards - If they release it at any point and it actually shows what they say it does, his name will be cleared in the court of public opinion anyway just as Depp's was

@DrReedRichards - if the evidence was subpoenaed, Chaudhry could be disbarred for dumping in public. Both sides are onligated to share any and all evidence during ‘Discovery,’ and, if Chaudhry subpoenaed (ie used the legal process (ie forced)) the foitage from the body cams, then that evidence is to be used for investigative and/or case-building means ONLY. The state would never agree to turn over that footage, were it not for the legal mechanisms in place compelling them to do so, but those same legal mechanisms also ensure confidentiality (ie protection). If Chaudhry violates that then no DA will ever turn over evidentiary items out of fear that they will be outed

Well, not EXACTLY like Depp, I hope. I hope he's actually innocent.

@SauronthePower -

Technically he could, but there's also the method of accidentally "leaking" said evidence through a 3rd party, and than claiming that they obtained it from the same source rather than providing it by the Defendant's office.

You see it all the time, from legal cases to entertainment. Shouldn't be that hard to take care of.

SpiderParker - 5/9/2023, 12:59 PM
@DrReedRichards - Since when did entertainment media become real case studies? Depp's attorney supposedly "leaked" such videos and they got in a huge problem because of it. Not everyone has Depp's level of power to get out of such issues.

Seems very likely they can't release it to public even if they wanted to. There will be more legal actions they will have to face.

@DrReedRichards - I think they are engaged in a sort of perverse negotiations dance at the moment. There is still a decent chance that Majors is fully exonerated and Chaudrhy may be playing that angle by waiting

IF she were to dump the vid publicly, the state would have zero motivation (fear incentive?) to drop the charges. Hence, why I think that the May 23 motion is in-play

@DrReedRichards - I have friends and family members who are domestic violence survivors. In two cases, the perpetrator were blackout drunks who rarely remembered their attacks. In one case, her friends didn't believe her. Forgive me if I take the side of the abused.
SpiderParker
SpiderParker - 5/9/2023, 1:09 PM
@ClintThaHamster - And just who is the abused here? Apart from the party involved, no one knows the truth. Waiting is always the best approach, I never put Depp in guilty when it was reported and it turns out it was the correct approach.

DrReedRichards - 5/9/2023, 1:11 PM
@ClintThaHamster -

I would have gladly forgiven you, if you had taken the side of the one actually abused. But you chose to instead throw shade at them, and support the one who did in fact enjoy years and years in the spotlight because of their false claims, only to be rightfully ridiculed once the truth became public, much to their dismay.

@DrReedRichards - To be clear, I stopped watching Johnny Depp movies because they sucked. It had nothing to do with Heard's accusations. But the viciousness with which the internet has turned on Heard, who, at the very least, was ALSO abused in her relationship, has been sickening, and will absolutely have a chilling effect on future victims going forward.

If you're one of those open minded types, consider consuming some media that doesn't confirm your worldview. This is a good place to start . . .

Clintthahamster - 5/9/2023, 1:21 PM
@SpiderParker - What about after a UK libel court found that Heard's claims of abuse were "substantially true?" Did you think of Depp as an abuser then, and then change your mind after the US court found otherwise?

@ClintThaHamster -

Noone said Depp's hands are clean; not even Depp himself. But to portray herself as the victim when in most cases she was the initial aggressor in the first place, only to have that trial blow up in her face (as it should)? Now, that's just some well-earned karma right there...

@DrReedRichards - "Noone said Depp's hands are clean; not even Depp himself."

So Depp is an abuser. Cool. Agreed.

"only to have that trial blow up in her face (as it should)?"

DEPP SUED HER, and she didn't even mention his name in the piece he sued over. She made a factual statement, that she was "a public figure representing domestic abuse," which was inarguably true in light of the fact that she'd just come off another trial where Depp sued her for defamation and he lost. And do you know how difficult it is to get away with libel in the UK? There's a much higher standard of evidence than in the US.

Oooooh, so everyone agreeeing with the lying abuser's claims is "a much higher standard" now, even when said trial was against, oh I don't know, one of the most infamously ridiculous tabloids like The Sun?

Thanks for making your bias clear, though. Depp sucks, so he;s guilty, plain and simple.

Read the article…

“Now, we have obtained even more video evidence of his innocence, but we are hesitant to share it, for fear the DA will tip the woman off to change her story again.”

They are saying they are hesitant to share it (even though it proves his innocence) because the accuser might change her story. How this could both help Majors and hurt his victims credibility I have zero clue why they wouldn’t release this.

This is the same song and dance they’ve been doing since the get-go.

...and I'm not going to, having read all the contrarian and clickbaity need for atention already.

That's part of forming a valid and informative point of view, you know. Reading both angles, and learning to recognize when someone is presenting actual arguments as to whose behaviour is genuine and whose is laughably forced, and when they're just trying to maintain a forced and not the least bit earned balance.
Clintthahamster
Clintthahamster - 5/9/2023, 2:14 PM
@DrReedRichards - So, to summarize, Tik Tok and Youtube channels monetizing videos portraying Heard as a psychopath and Depp as an innocent victim are the legit news sources, and *checks notes* NPR, WNYC, and The New Yorker are "contrarian and clickbaity need for atention." "Reading both angles" is important, unless you already know that you're going to disagree with what they say. Your brain, so small, so smooth.

Anyway, eat shit. ✌️

@regularmovieguy - you saw they removed the strangulation charge and edited it out of their case? 🤔

Until we see hard evidence either way, none of us knows the wiser so let the process play through

You have been using inference with other users in certain aspects of this case. Could you not also use inference to point out that a lawyer of Chaudrhy’s standing is not going to put all of their cards on the public table under the foundation of a falsehood. Would pretty much end her career as a litigator and Majors ain’t paying enough to sustain her for the next 30 years
