AQUAMAN AND THE LOST KINGDOM Director James Wan Confirms DCU Reboot Has Led To Various "Adjustments"

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom director James Wan confirms that he's made some changes to the upcoming sequel so it lines up with the upcoming DCU reboot, though it sounds like the story is largely standalone.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has seemingly been delayed even more times than The Flash, but it will finally splash down into theaters this December.

It's no secret that the sequel has been through a few rounds of reshoots and we've heard rumours of disastrous test screenings on more than one occasion. The first movie earned over $1 billion worldwide back in 2018, but whether there's the same level of interest for this follow-up is hard to say.

During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director James Wan was asked exactly how much "adjusting" he's had to do since the formation of DC Studios and the apparent DCEU-to-DCU reset The Flash will deliver.

"I’ve had to make adjustments all along the way," the filmmaker admits. "The DCU has been through lots of different versions, and one of the things that was challenging about this film was keeping track of what’s going on."

"Fortunately, the Aquaman universe is pretty far removed from the rest of the world. We’re going to many different underwater kingdoms that are not necessarily related to what’s happening with the other movies and characters, so we’re stand-alone in that respect. So I can just tell my story on its own without being affected too much, but at the same time, I have to be mindful of what’s been happening."

Among those changes is a post-credits scene with Michael Keaton's Batman which was then reshot with Ben Affleck's Batman and, since Crisis on Infinite Earths was scrapped, will no longer be in the movie at all.

In Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, when an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unlikely ally to protect Atlantis, and the world, from irreversible devastation.

The movie stars Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Nicole Kidman (Atlanna), Patrick Wilson (Orm), Amber Heard (Mera), Yahya Adbdul-Mateen II (Black Manta), and Dolph Lundgren (King Nereus), along with newcomers in the form of Pilou Asbæk, Vincent Regan, and Indya Moore.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom arrives in theaters on December 20.

As bad as the first one was this one will be way worse, so for these movies to be officially post-Flashpoint DCU is a terrifying prospect.
Also, Jason Momoa not playing Lobo is one the biggest missed opportunities in terms of cbm casting ever. They could rectify that.

But if you read what James Wan is actually saying here, he's not saying anything that we didn't already know. The movie has indeed gone through changes, due to the Flash movie. The end credits scene once featured Keaton, then Affleck and then nobody and who knows what now.

@ObserverIO - I didn't hate the 1st one, atleast it didn't look like footage from the holocaust. It was way to long and had too much crammed in it but that's it.

But yeah, the whole thing is a mess. Wonder which type of dialogue will they add to justify what happened in the Flash.

Btw rumors are online re-Flash's post-credits. They sound exactly like that: an afterthought.

Wan deserved better than this. Maybe Momoa too.

Heard, on the other hand...
