AQUAMAN Star Talks Filming And Preparing For The Role Of Black Manta

During a recent interview with GQ, Yahya Abdul Mateen II felt excited to talk about his role as Black Manta, the villain in next year's Aquaman. He talks about getting into shape to battle Jason Mamoa's Arthur Curry and even though there is still a long wait until its release, the actor is confident that the end result will be worth the wait for audiences.

"It’s going great. The scale is epic and this movie is going to be so good! I can’t say too much, but in the hands of James Wan and with Jason Momoa at the helm, I think people are going to be really happy with it. It’s been about five days a week in the gym and doing fight training, too. I have a love-hate relationship with working out. I do not enjoy the experience when I’m doing it, but I never regret it. I think I’m in the best shape of my life.

He also gives his opinion of the film's shooting location, Australia.

"It’s just so low stress. I love it and have been telling everyone that if they ever get the chance they should come visit. I kind of assumed all of Australia was like the Gold Coast – so I was telling people Australians just work out and go to the beach. Like, Australia has it figured out! But then I went to Sydney and it was nothing like the Gold Coast – but I still loved it.”

Fans will get to see Mamoa reprise his role as Aquaman since last month's Justice League, and Yahya as his arch-nemisis December 21, 2018.

@Antithesis - Agreed!

With a director like James Wan telling WB to stay out of the way or he would have walked, we should see less of the tampering that took place with other DC movies. And I liked what I saw from Jason Momoa in Justice League.

@Antithesis - Well, the good thing is James Wan is keeping the main story tight-lipped. Other than addressing one of the rumors this was going to have three villains in the same movie, which it is not.

I trust in his director abilities, and commitment to the production.

I actually liked Aquaman in JL. He had a personality and brought an enthusiastic energy to a bland ass movie. But some aspects of his character were a little too much overdone surfer bro.
