AVENGERS: ENDGAME Director Joe Russo Would Love To See CAPTAIN AMERICA Actor Chris Evans Play... Wolverine!?

During a new interview, Avengers: Endgame co-director Joe Russo was asked for his ideal pick to play Wolverine in The MCU, and he went an actor who's been synonymous with Captain America for over a decade!

Chris Evans (seemingly) put his Captain America days behind him in Avengers: Endgame when Steve Rogers passed his shield and mantle to Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), and although rumors of his imminent return persist, it doesn't sound like the Lightyear actor really has much interest in revisiting the role anytime soon.

Disappointing for some, maybe, but at least this frees him up to play Wolverine! Wait... what?

While speaking to ComicBook.com, Endgame co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo were asked who they'd cast Evans as in a (theoretical) multiverse MCU movie, and Joe gave Logan as his surprising answer.

“Evans has incredible range and great physicality, and he's real good at body control,” said the filmmaker. “He's an incredible actor. I don't mean this in a bad way, but he's nothing like Captain America. Steve Rogers is very controlled and quiet, understated. Chris is energetic and funny and charismatic, and he brings a lot of energy to set. I'd love to see him do something like Wolverine.”

This is a complete "What If?" scenario, of course, but now that it's out there, we could actually see Evans don the claws and mutton-chops of the iconic mutant berserker! It's probably never going to happen, but remember, Evans did play The Human Torch prior to landing the part of Captain America!

Even so, the chances of Evans playing Wolvie in The MCU outside of a brief Multiverse cameo of some sort are between slim and none. Marvel Studios will cast a new take on the character at some point, but we've had no official updates on Kevin Feige's plans for The X-Men since the Fox acquisition went through.

Do you think Chris Evans would make a good Wolverine? If not, who would you pick for the role? Drop us a comment down below.

What is the point in even speculating about this? Obviously this is not going to happen.

@Drace24 - No speculation... just found it interesting that Russo thinks Evans would make a good Wolverine.

@Drace24 - fun. It's interesting. Not every article needs to be hard hitting journalism. Sometimes it's just neat news.

@UGLYsonic - It's not news tho.

@Drace24 - the definition of news is simply "information about current events". This is previously unknown information obtained in a recent interview being shared. This literally is news.

A list article isn't news. Opinion piece editorials are not news. Fan fiction is not news.

This, however, is by definition "news", regardless of your level of interest or satisfaction of what is being reported. Once again, not all news needs to be hard hitting, Earth shattering scoops.

If you watch the actual news, there is always hard hitting stories then light hearted inconsequential stories. Not all news is big.

But this is news.

@UGLYsonic - You can say what you want, bro. "Old man says cloud could be Wolverine" is hardly newsworthy.

Something like Wolverine doesn't mean playing Wolverine. He's just versaitle when playing a nasty SOB, but since Captain America, most don't expect it out of him. Seeing his turn in Knives Out was especially fun as a result. And I'm sure The Gray Man will prove further why Mr. Russo expressed so.

I don’t see it at all

@GhostDog - Some directors have a great eye for seeing what actors can do. I always think of how Oliver Stone knew Woody Harrelson could play a serial killer.

@LSHF - the running joke with Harrelson in that movie is that he pulled material from his mob assassin father lol. Jokes aside, you’re right

The only name I want to hear attached to Wolverine is Jared Keeso.

"Real good at body control" can he lose like 3 feet off his height for the stinkiest of X-Men

Just get him back as Human Torch. But not the Johnny Storm version, but as the Jim Hammond version

@bkmeijer1 - Yeah, he'd make a good Jim Hammond.... but could be interesting when the Invaders movie comes along and he teams up with Cap.... maybe have to do it with the replacement Caps after Steve was lost... the super-hero Patriot think was one who took on the mantle.

@Corruptor - wouldn't mind an Invaders team lead by Isaiah Bradley in the 60s or 70s either. Wonder how Namor could tie into that though, assuming he's the villain in Wakanda Forever.

I don't understand why when the idea of casting Wolverine comes up, everyone goes for the most handsome actors. Let's get a Wolverine who doesn't look like a male model. My pick, if he were younger, would be Michael Rooker in his Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer days. Let him pack on some muscle and he would have been great. Or, even better, the perfect template for Wolverine would be Mike Tyson of the late 80's. A dangerous man, with rage bottled up inside and ready to boil over. Tyson was on the shorter side, built like an animal and had his anger stamped on his face. That, to me, is Wolverine.

@keithvw - Yeah, unfortunately Hugh Jackman's casting has successfully brainwashed people with the image of a Hollywood-ified Wolverine (tall, handsome, etc). So annoying.

People say they "wouldn't be able to take a short Wolverine seriously", but instead prefer to fancast every generic 6ft+ handsome white dude in Hollywood to take over from Jackman. I just don't understand.

We need a nowadays Mel Gibson for Wolverine. Without the anti-Semitism of course...

The dude has all the makings of what a good onscreen Wolvie would need, especially after packing on a bunch of super hero muscle. Crazy Riggs from Lethal Weapon, mixed with the Payback never give In vibe.

If they could find someone who could embody that, we'd have a winner on our hands I think.

This had Gibson vibes all over it at the time.

One actor that's caught my lately has been Ray Nicholson; from what little I've seen from him he's a pretty good actor that I feel would be able to live up to physicality of the role as well.

@Superspecialawesomeguy - Easily one of the better casting ideas I've seen.
Personally I like Alden Ehrenreich for Wolvie.
All other fan casts I've seen make no damn sense.

I know he's popular for Human Torch though. That seems more likely to happen.
