Although the reveal came in for some backlash,
Avengers: Endgame did indeed introduce a minor gay character (played by Joe Russo) during the group chat scene with Steve Rogers. Many felt this was a bit of a cop out, but the directors have now promised that a more significant player in The MCU has secretly been gay all along, and this will be addressed in an upcoming movie.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly's
EW Morning Live, Russo discussed his cameo in
Endgame. When asked 'who else is gay?', he responded:
“Uhhh... We’re gonna find out! “There is a gay character coming up in one of their films, and I think Kevin [Feige, MCU boss] will make that announcement, I’m sure pretty soon.”
Valkyrie seems like the most obvious guess, as it was hinted that she might be bisexual in a scene that was ultimately cut from
Thor: Ragnarok. There has also been some speculation that it might be Captain Marvel, but, really, there are numerous possibilities.
