Is That Moment Between Steve And Tony In The Latest AVENGERS: ENDGAME Trailer Actually In The Film?

Directors Joe and Anthony Russo recently sat down to discuss Avengers: Endgame and touched on a key moment in the latest trailer between Cap and Iron Man, (possibly) joking that scene isn't in the movie.

Fox 5 -DC movie news correspondent Kevin McCarthy recently sat down with Joe and Anthony Russo to discuss Avengers: Endgame and revealed that his favorite moment in the new trailer occurs when Tony asks Cap, "do you trust me?" And Cap responds, "I do."

Anthony Russo began to earnestly respond, "Well, it's an amazing moment, but we can't go into too much detail," before he was cut off by his brother Joe, who admitted, "That scene isn't in the movie.  You know, how we tell people we manipulate the trailers to obfuscate what happens in these films..."

The interviewer appeared devastated, and asked if he was serious, to which Joe sheepishly replied, "Am I Joking?"

Anthony then attempted to move the conversation forward, replying "The relationship between Tony and Steve Rogers is a relationship we've been following closely for a long time. That is a special story arc." But McCarthy doubled back to Joe and attempted to confirm if he was seriously joking, to which he replied, "Maybe [that scene] is in the movie.

The Russos are likely poking fun at the small amount of fan backlash they received for a scene in the Avengers: Infinity War trailer that ultimately wasn't in the film.

They've previously commented on the absence of the "hero shot" from the Infinity War trailer, stating, "We use all the material that we have at our disposal to create a trailer. We look at the trailer as a very different experience than the movie, and I think audiences are so predictive now that you have to be very smart about how you craft a trailer because an audience can watch a trailer and basically tell you what’s gonna happen in the film. We consume too much content. So at our disposal are lots of different shots that aren’t in the movie that we can manipulate through CG to tell a story that we want to tell specifically for the purpose of the trailer and not for the film.

That shot that you’re referencing was never in the movie in the version that you saw. It was never even created for the movie in that version. It was literally created in that version for the trailer."

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters on April 26. Advance tickets are currently live, though most opening night screenings are already sold out, with a few eBay auctions reselling tickets for thousands of dollars.

The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios' grand conclusion to twenty-two films, Avengers: Endgame.

I love how these guys film fake scenes just for trailers. It really hampers speculation and spoilers and I’m all for it.

@jerryblake - Older Tony. Past Steve.

@L0RDbuckethead -
Hit the nail on the head.

The belief is that older Tony will need to recruit past Avengers 2012 Steve in order to get him to help. The filming was done in the old suits with motion capture dots specifically so they could hide stuff like this.

The handshake that follows is another shot spliced together too. It's not a handshake between Stark and Cap, as they're making it seem.

The hands actually belong to Stark and Ant-Man:

You can tell by the grey on the chest on the right. (turn the brightness up)

Judging by the look on Antony’s face when his brother cuts in I’d say joe is lying because Antony looks confused, we’ll see soon enough, I didn’t actually watch that trailer because I didn’t see the point now that we are this close

they better fix the Hulk ... because since Avengers 1 i did not found him/Banner being as that much interesting

@jerryblake - I still think Banner in The Avengers is the most interesting version of the character

@MalseMarcel

I also liked what they did with Banner in The Incredible Hulk (first half of the movie i guess). It was node to Bixby show, Banner on the run.

@MalseMarcel - I agree. One thing Whedon did right was handle Bennet well- the darkness/concerns/fears within him that he must live & deal with all the time.

@MediaMan - The Russos make awesome comic book movies, but in my opinion really made The Avengers feel like an actual comic book on screen

That's definitely 2012 Cap with his 2019 suit edited over the 2012 suit. That's why Stark asks him if he trusts him, because 2012 Cap trusting some guy claiming to be from the future without a doubt seems unlikely
