Why Was The AVENGERS: ENDGAME Title Considered A Spoiler? Marvel's Kevin Feige Explains

Kevin Feige has claimed that the reason he wasn't at liberty to reveal the title of Avengers 4 was because it was a spoiler for what happens in Infinity War. Now, he offers an explanation... of sorts!

You may recall that while doing the rounds to promote Avengers: Infinity War, Kevin Feige stated that the main reason they were keeping the title for the follow-up under wraps was because it would spoil what happened in the previous film.

This understandably led to a lot of speculation, but when the title of Avengers 4 was finally revealed to be Endgame... well, that's not really a spoiler at all, is it?

During a recent interview with the Marvel head honcho, Collider asked him for an explanation.

“Well, I think I’d said that it all had gotten blown out of proportion to some extent. But it was a spoiler, because if you knew before Infinity War came out that the next movie was called Endgame, then you know that there wasn’t an ending to Infinity War. But that had been the title of the movie from the moment we conceived of doing the two films. In large part, because…it’s seeded right there. I mean, it’s seeded in Ultron.”

We can kind of see where Feige is coming from, but a far more likely explanation is that they didn't want to reveal the title until they were good and ready, and wanted to keep the fans guessing in the meantime.

After all, The Russo Brothers flat-out denied that the movie was called Endgame on several different occasions, so it's always best not to put too much stock in anything these guys say when quizzed about something they're simply not ready or willing to divulge.

Tell us, were you disappointed or underwhelmed by the Avengers: Endgame title reveal? Drop us a comment in the usual place.

Yes, the Ultron thumbnail is a bit click-baity (even though Feige does reference him), and I'm owning it:)

I do remember Feige, months and months ago, basically explaining when they announced Infinity War (then Part 1 and 2) before Age of Ultron was released, everyone asked about IW during AoU's press instead of the film at hand. So for Endgame, they withheld the title so the focus would be on IW... but ended up getting more "What is Avengers 4?" questions during Infinity War's press than they did for Age of Ultron, so it backfired big time. Feige basically said if he could do it over again, they'd have just said Avengers 4's title.

I was only disappointed when Josh spoiled the title reveal in the title of his article. Woulda been nice to see it at the end of the release trailer

Regardless, I still appreciate what Josh puts out. But that was a sore move

@Vigor - I gotta agree on that. Might have to check the Star Wars IX somewhere else, since it'll probably be the same situation then

@Vigor - He pulled a similar stunt regarding a certain character's specific, return appearance for then-Avengers 4.

Stopped looking at most of his stuff after that.

So, what have we learned from this and his initial comments on James Gunn? We shouldn't blow it out of proportion.

Noted.

@KWilly - Oh man with that gif you remind me of my professor. She thought the Joker looked like that to distort the dichotomy. She clearly doesn't understand the Joker or his relationship with Batman at all. Thanks for listening

@MalseMarcel

Has Feige said anything publically about Gunn’s during?

Paul at least knew the title back in June, you can tell from his reaction. Either Seth knew and way purposefully trolling him or it was a wild coincidence. Either way, don't know how people didn't pick up on this during the whole title-kerfuffle.

@Nebula - To me it seems like they both know and just play it off like it's nothing, but also in a way they don't make it seem to obvious (like Cheadle's reaction when Ruffalo said everybody was gonna die in Infinity War)

@MalseMarcel - I also think that.

"it’s seeded in Ultron" - Ancient MCU Proverb

It is AMAZING how much of the current MCU is built off of Ultron's back
