Will Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson Return In AVENGERS: ENDGAME?

Agent Coulson's death is what led to the formation of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in The Avengers, and Clark Gregg now appears to be teasing a return for his character in Avengers: Endgame. Check it out...

In The Avengers, Joss Whedon shocked the world when he decided to kill off Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson. Stabbed through the chest by Loki, Nick Fury manipulated Earth's Mightiest Heroes by using his death to finally bring them together as a team.

Since then, Coulson has returned in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but seemingly died (again) at the end of season five. However, with time-travel appearing to factor into Avengers: Endgame, there's a very good chance that he could make another return (in recent years, it feels like Marvel Studios has forgotten about how important his original demise was).

During a recent interview, Gregg was asked if he could appear in the Avengers: Infinity War sequel and teased: "In the world of Marvel, anything's possible."

That's a vague tease but a tease nonetheless, and it would definitely be fun to see more of Coulson's interactions with these characters, which were always a highlight in Phase 1. It would also be interesting to see Marvel Studios revisit what happened to Coulson and the fact that the team was essentially built on a lie.

What do you guys think? As always, share your thoughts in the comments section below.

I think it's better if he stayed death in the movies. As much as it is interesting, I hope they don't mess with all that time traveling stuff

An entire article based on a single sentence that doesn't even answer the original question. Sigh.

@dinoSlider - that single sentence is one red pube away from a no.

Soooooo if Coulson is dead in the movies but not TV why don’t they just establish a multiverse? A simple mention would satisfy all these questions about if the movies and tv exist in the same universe. In reality it doesn’t make great sense that Agents Of Shield goes through all these missions and don’t run into the Avengers

...my son cried in the theater when Coulson died...he was 10 then...he's pretty happy now that he's back on the big screen again...now that he's 16 has a GF and a iPhone...hasn't changed his favorite MCU character....

Would be cool if the real Cookson died in Avengers and was reborn in AoS like normal, but that there was also a Skrull version out there too.

The original person doesn’t need to be dead for there to be a skrull imposter right?

With its time travel shenanigans, ENDGAME is sure to be stuffed with all sorts of series-finale-style cameos. We already have confirmation that Frank Grillo (Crossbones) and Maximilliano Hernandez (Sitwell) were in Atlanta doing extracurricular activities with the cast around the time of filming. Would not be surprising at all if Clark Gregg’s SHIELD downtime also included AVENGERS 4.

@NoAssemblyReqd - you mention crossbones. I wouldn't be surprised if in some parallel universe, crossbones actually kills captain. Then I thought about it some more and I'm not sure how satisfied I'd be about THAT being the ending of caps life

Not sure if I like the idea of him coming back. More interested in what device they are going to use going forward to connect the movies. Coulson is gone. The Infinity Stones are going to be done after Endgame. Fury is getting up there. Although they could just deage him. I am thinking they are going to use the skrulls as the glue for the MCU going forward.

@LaserKing - I think when it comes to time travel,, a lot o f people could come back and a lot of people could not exist. Reality may change as the avengers know it

People keep mentioning how he’s dead, but every indication is that Endgame will take characters to multiple points in time, so him being in it doesn’t need to change anything if people visit the time before he was stabbed.

Something tells me that after Avengers:Endgame I'm going to need a flow-chart to figure out who's who, and what's what.

It seems like a real possibility to me even if for no other reason than the story is clearly going to be featuring some events around the same timeframe as the first Avengers movie, whether that's by regular time travel or the "BARF" tech Tony came up with for revisiting past memories
