AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Becomes The Second-Fastest Movie To Reach $500 Million Domestically

Avengers: Infinity War just hit another impressive benchmark as the latest figures are in and the epic Marvel ensemble is going to easily surpass the half a billion mark in North America this weekend.

Currently, the signs are all pointing to Deadpool 2 debuting with $130 million - $150 million at the North American box office next weekend and while that's good news for the Merc with the Mouth, that's bound to have an impact on Avengers: Infinity War. For now, though, that movie continues to rule because it will remain at #1 this weekend with a projected three-day haul of a solid $60 million.

That means the Russo Brothers helmed release will become the second-fastest movie to pass $500 million domestically, a feat it's managed to achieve in 15 days. That's one day sooner than Star Wars: The Last Jedi and five days later than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, a movie which still holds a number of records. This definitely bodes well for Avengers: Infinity War's final week unopposed, though.

The Marvel movie should end the weekend with $546 million and analysts expect it to end its domestic run with $650 million. That's behind Black Panther, a cultural phenomenon which is now $3.6 million away from $700 million! We don't have international numbers for Avengers: Infinity War at the moment but $2 billion remains a possibility, so be sure to stay tuned to CBM for additional updates.

Totally deserves it. Thinking of seeing it in IMAX for the third time. Any feedback? Worth it on a larger screen?

@Prime8 - I watched it once in regular 2D, once in regular 3D, and once in IMAX 3D. I'd say IMAX was definitely a worthwhile experience.

@Prime8 - IMAX was the best viewing experience, Thanos felt larger, it felt a bit more immersive too. And overall you can just feel it

@Prime8 - Yes it's worth it. My first viewing was in IMAX. My second was on a regular screen and while it was still awesome it just doesn't compare.

@Prime8 - absolutely worth it, there is SO MUCH missing from certain shots when you see it in a non-IMAX format. They fit a ton into every frame

Despite having a larger domestic opening weekend it's amazing how far behind it is to The Force Awakens.

@defenderofthefaith - I think the biggest thing that helped TFA is that it came out right when Christmas break was happening.

@defenderofthefaith - Force Awakens is a huge juggernaut, and it's the effect of the summer season. People are already gearing up to see Solo and Deadpool

@defenderofthefaith - TFA was the first Star Wars movie since the OT featuring the beloved original cast, and it had the full Christmas season in theaters.

@AvengersRock - Possibly, but we'll see. Still only been out two weeks, mind you, and it had a strong opening in China.

Here's a random thought;

What if a planet has an ODD number of beings on it. How does the gauntlet work that out?
