Josh Brolin Wants To Return As Thanos After AVENGERS 4 And Is Open To Starring In THE ETERNALS

During a recent interview to promote the release of the Sicario sequel, Josh Brolin discussed his future as Thanos and revealed that not only is he hoping to return but he wouldn't say no to The Eternals.

Josh Brolin's performance as Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War was nothing short of incredible and fans are understandably anxious to see the actor return as the Mad Titan in next year's Avengers 4. However, could the character have a future beyond that movie? As of right now, we have no idea but the actor has revealed that he's ready and willing to return as Thanos when the opportunity arises.

Before we get to that, though, Screen Rant mentioned to Brolin that he could be given the opportunity to show up as Thanos in The Eternals, a movie we recently learned Marvel Studios is developing for Phase 4. Despite being unaware that the project is moving forward, he made it clear that he would definitely be interested to see the villain's story continue there. He then elaborated on that:

"Yeah, you know what, I don't know what the future brings and who knows, but [I] love the idea of something infinite like this. I've never been involved in sequels. The fact that we've done some of Avengers 2, oh sorry, Avengers 4 but Infinity War 2, I'm going back. I'm going to do more, and we're going to do some reshoots and all that. So, I'm excited about all that. I love the Russos. I love working on the Avengers. I didn't think I was going to and I actually loved it. I didn't even like it. I loved it. I like playing that character. It's a Brando-esqe, Apocalyptic Now character and it's fun, but you know, I don't know. I don't know what the future holds. I've been surprised my entire career so we'll see."

Given Marvel's track record of killing off its bad guys, common sense says that Thanos will get what's coming to him and could end up going the same way as those he turned into dust at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. On the other hand, it would be great to see him survive and take on a very different role within the MCU but we're now going to have to wait and see. What do you guys think?

After Avengers 4, they have to find a new great villain and that big villain has to be Dr. Doom or kang the conqueror.

@Repian - Honestly, after Avengers 4, they should do the masters of evil.

Why try to go bigger? you can´t outdo Thanos, so you should go more personal.

@ALF9001 - I hope that's what the Red Skull cameo was for. Setting up the return of a cosmically-empowered and knowledgeable Skull.

I can't decide if I want a more traditional Masters of Evil, or a Thunderbolts team led by Citizen V / Zemo going rogue. Abomination would be perfect for either, though. If they've officially recast Skull with Marquand, I could see them doing the same with Blonsky if Roth isn't keen.

Introducing Amora wouldn't be too hard (Asgardians go rogue all the time), but I can't think of anyone else off-hand who could be lifted from the established movies for a Skull-oriented MoE.

@Spock0Clock - I think zemo should be put in the thunderbolts. Breaks free, and then forms the masters of evil from what’s left.

It’s actually a big part of the mcu they have not touched upon.

@Spock0Clock - Although it does not happen in the comic, The Leader has to be the great genius behind the Masters of Evil.

@Repian - Wasn't it Ultron as Crimson Cowel? Now that would be a twisted surprise post-Phase 4. Masters of Evil with Zemo and the Crimson Cowel only to reveal "It was I, Dio-err, Ultron! I'm back baby."

@Repian - Doctor Doom would be more of a Vader style villain than Thanos I think he certainly has the potential to be more iconic and when Marvel finally does introduce him it needs to be a shocking reveal even better than Thanos at the end of the first Avengers.

@ALF9001 - I just read Masters of Evil not a week ago. Great story, but it would be difficult to adapt because there aren't those many villains they could use in the MCU. In the original they were just second-rate villains who managed to overpower Jarvis and Black Knight, not many of those in the MCU.

From a certain POV, Infinity War WAS its own movie. Once you accept that Thanos is the real protagonist, you can clearly see that this is the story of how the mad titan brought the universe down to its knees.

Thanos is an amazing character, so incredibly big and ambitious, yet so serene and discretely emotive. No doubt he was mad, but he was also incredibly intelligent, like the kind of crazy that rationalizes his psychopathic impulses and fully believes in what he came up with.

While watching it, I couldn´t believe how brave they were to embrace the grandess and ambition of the story, and it all goes back to the character. Thanos is the reason why Infinity War worked so well, and I´m very excited to see where they take the character next.

@ALF9001 - so this basically confirms that they do not kill Thanos. That works for me!!! He was certainly an amazing villian and I am also extremely interested in where they take the character next.

Brolin seems legitimately into the Thanos thing.

Gonna be real satisfying watching Carol put her size 8's up his purple pa-toot.
