THOR: RAGNAROK Producer Comments On The Possibility Of Hela Appearing In AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

Though he doesn't confirm or deny anything outright, in a new interview Thor: Ragnarok producer Brad Winderbaum does seems to hint at the possibility of the villainous Hela showing up in Infinity War...

Ever since it was first revealed that Hela would be the baddie in Thor: Ragnarok, fans have speculated about her continuing role in the MCU going forward - specifically as it relates to Avengers: Infinity War.

In the comics, Thanos falls in love with the personification of Death, and since Hela is the Goddess of Death, a lot of fans have theorized that Cate Blanchett's villain might take that character's place in the movie adaptation.

Screen Rant asked producer Brad Winderbaum about this during their set visit, and although he didn't confirm or deny anything, he does seem to hint at the possibility.

"Obviously we always think about the movies as standalones, even if they do set up a movie down the road or pay off something from a previous film. What we hope, if we do our jobs right, is that Hela is one of the best villains we’ve had – maybe the best, hopefully,” “Cate has been delivering an incredible performance. She’s really scary and really charming. She’s very easy to watch, very fun to be around. But very murderous and horrible at the same time. You’re right that those are things that Thanos values. But when and how she plays into the future of the universe is uncertain now.”"

We'll obviously have to wait and see if Hela has a presence in Infinity War or not, but based on what Winterbaum says here as well as recent comments from others involved with the film, it definitely sounds like Blanchett will reprise the role in some capacity beyond Thor: Ragnarok.

What do you guys think? Should Hela take over from Death in Infinity War, or would you rather they were two separate characters? Sound off below.

I think we wont see hela take the place of death in infinity war, because otherwise he would have said that her play in future movies is to some degree a certainty

@MrPositive - I'd love to see them try to pull off that kiss in the movie.

Just saw IT. Holy f**k, I loved it. The audience was amazing, too, everyone got into it. Since I'm a wuss, I had to look away a few times. Didn't like a few things but they weren't major. Easily one of my favorite, if not THE favorite, movies I've seen this year. I'm going again next weekend. Can't wait for it to come out on Blu-Ray. I don't know if I want to read the novel again or watch the old miniseries again. To me, the movie is better than both of those, and I loved them, too. I give it 99 red balloons out of 100.

Here's the thing with the MCU, it's an adaptation, and a lot of the time they amalgamate characters to streamline plots and story arcs. Like how Whiplash in Iron Man 2 is a combination of all versions of Whiplash and Crimson Dynamo. And in the same way Hela has Gorr's powers, a little dash of Enchantress' alluring sexuality and having Skurge on her side, it seems that it would be smart to have her be "Death". How pointless would it be to have the God of death be someone so powerful that they make Hulk and Thor seem like nothing, only for her to be bested by another entity involved with death. It would kind of make her character redundant. I hate power pissing contests. The way to top a previous villain isn't suppose to be like, "okay, Hela could blow up cities, well, Death can blow up galaxies" Wow, fictional character being unrealsitically powerful and over the top, so badass am I right? Like, we don't need to turn up the juice when Hela is already extraordinarily powerful. Once again, if she can just easily be out powered by some more powerful death entity, her entire character becomes pointless. Then there's the question of why Death doesn't govern Asgard's dead, and everywhere else. It's just too convoluted and pointless not to use her. I'm not saying they can't make it work otherwise, but there's a strong argument against it I would say.

@ScarletWarlock - my theory on the whole villains being more powerful than the next thing is that's the reason why the mcu villains have underwhelmed. They tend to focus on the heros journey because if the villain is all powerful and each time the hero finds a way to beat them it gets stale and people will say deus machina moment.

But for the very reason you brought up is why I'm scared for infinity wars. If hulk and Thor can't beat Hela, how can anyone beat thanos? They have their work cut out for them

@MyCoolYoung - I'm not worried about Thanos in that capacity because it's more or less about wit as opposed to who can punch the hardest. As for Hela, she's meant to be sort of omnipotent, and here it doesn't feel like they're just leaning on her being a threat to carry her character. It seems there is real weight to her power, in fact her whole threat levels is essentially what sets the story in motion. She destroys his hammer and sends him packing to Sakaar and all. So her power levels aren't some shallow use in the film. Powerful characters like Ego don't bother me, it's just the need to go bigger for no other reason than thinking you have to bigger to be better, is a recipe for disaster. I don't feel that way with most of the upcoming films, but for Thor 2, Malkeith was clearly meant to be a huge threat, but all the scenes with him just feel like they're going through the motions. You never want that with a big threat, because then it will feel like, in that universe, that any random uninteresting cosmic being can destroy earth out of random desire. It really seems like Marvel is moving away from that. Because Even Kaecelius, who was okay, he genuinely wants to make everyone immortal because he despises the concept of death. And in that one scene, you buy it. So they were trying to flip the expectations on people. So MARVEL is capable of changing and correcting themselves.
