Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse included a couple of live-action cameos, but outside of archival footage, there was no sign of Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire, and Andrew Garfield's respective web-slingers.
The latter two were shown mourning for Captain Stacy and Uncle Ben, but according to The Cosmic Circus (via Toonado.com), there was a shot of Holland's Spider-Man in his red and black suit which was cut. The site doesn't elaborate on what his cameo entailed, but perhaps we'll see it in next year's Beyond the Spider-Verse?
Even more intriguing is the fact Marvel Studios reportedly plans to use Spider-Verse characters in Avengers: Secret Wars.
Whether that means they'll appear in live-action or in their animated forms is unclear, but it's said there was a good reason for the Multiverse we saw in Across the Spider-Verse looking the same as the one shown in the likes of Loki and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania. A Spider-Verse character is also expected to appear at the end of Madame Web.
The latter is obviously less exciting than whatever Marvel Studios has planned, but it suggests there's going to be a lot of connectivity between these upcoming movies (which may even expect Morbius' bizarre post-credits scene).
The site even reiterates past rumours about Avengers: Secret Wars becoming a two-part movie with the titles released between them set in a new "Battleworld" Phase of storytelling set in a new reality.
Only time will tell whether all of this pans out, of course, but it's hard not to be excited over the prospect of Oscar Isaac playing a live-action Spider-Man 2099 in the MCU! Jake Johnson is also a natural fit for Peter B. Parker, though it's best not to get too excited over these rumours right now, particularly with the WGA strike still ongoing.
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is currently playing in theaters.
