EDITORIAL: Will Thanos Appear In 'GOTG2' and 'THOR: RAGNAROK'?

In this editorial, I'll be showcasing the reasons as to why I believe Thanos will show up (in some capacity) in both Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and Thor: Ragnarok.

I haven't written an editorial in quiet some time. I'll be presenting reasons why its more likely than not that Thanos will be appearing in both films. Strap in for a wild ride! (not really...)

The Thanos Quest

As seen at the end of Age of Ultron, Thanos has now taken it upon himself to collect all of the Infinity Stones. We have yet to see the Time and Soul Stone show up (but it's speculated that they will be featured in either Doctor Strange and/or Guardians of the Galaxy 2)

Now why would Thanos venture to the realm of Asgard you ask in Thor: Ragnarok? It's fairly simple, the Tesseract (and Loki).

At the end of The Avengers, the Tesseract (Space Stone) was taken to Asgard and locked away in Odin's Trophy Room. Honestly, the acquisition of the Cube could merely be a mid/post credits scene of Loki handing over the Cube to Thanos. We'll have to wait and see how it plays out, but its too on the nose to not happen at all.

Now on to Guardians of the Galaxy 2 (but first, let's back track to the mid-credits scene of Thor: The Dark World). In the mid-credits scene, Sif and Volstagg (sp?) are seen taking the Aether (Reality Stone) to Knowhere, specifically the Collectors Museum.

The Aether is now in possession of the Collector, and it's thought that he is working either with or for Thanos, evidence of this can be found when The Other mentions his source, and says that said source made it clear that Gamora was going to betray Ronan. Now, how did he know that? Thanos working with the Collector, of course. I personally believe that the collector made a deal with Thanos to acquire the Infinity Stones, hence the Collectors "One down, Five to go" line (or he simply just wants to collect the stones for himself, lol).

Either way, Thanos will be paying a visit to Knowhere to get the Aether and he'll also likely be venturing to Xandar to get the Orb (Power Stone) from the Nova Corps. At the end of Guardians of the Galaxy, the Guardians entrusted the Orb with the Nova Corps for safe keeping.

The other credit that leads me to believe Thanos will show up in both films is that Brolin is slated to portray Thanos (in his words) "In 2016 and 2017". Infinity War will be shooting for a whopping 9 months or so in 2016, GOTG2 starts shooting in Feb 2016, and it appears, or is most likely that Thor: Ragnarok will be shooting some time after that. Brolin will most likely be on set for Infinity War and voice the character for GOTG2 and Ragnarok in 2016/2017.

We all know Thanos' last stop will be Earth/Midgard/Terran for the last stone, the Mind Stone.

So that's all for this editorial and I hope you enjoyed reading it. Do you think Thanos will show up in either of these films? What were you hoping for in terms of his appearances in the films? Sound off in the comments below and thanks for taking the time out to read this!

In GOTG2 I hope Thanos is in, Thor: Ragnarok not so much, maybe after credits.

"how did Ronan know that the Guardians were on Knowhere?"
he knew because while drunk drax sent a message to let them know

i think he might be the main antagonist in GOTG2 since gunn said it would be about fathers, so thanos vs quills dad (i think it's starhawk) and maybe drax (if his daughter appears. and he might appear in Thor 3

VisionaryNPA- yeah i think that just because of what Gunn said also it would give them the chance to end the film with the heroes losing and thanos getting his hands on 1 gem so the war can begin. personally i would have made the black order the villains.

Nah I think the THOR films are done setting up future plotlines, RAGNAROK especially is like the end of a trilogy, and Marvel is closing out all their tabs with Phase 3 so its wiser to store all its expositional Infinity lore in Guardians 2, and make THOR 3 solely about the Asgardian lore of that particular storyline.

I think Collector's quite a wildcard, we really can't put a clear definition as to his alignment in these movies. Your argument for him working for Thanos makes sense.

Well Kevin Feige did say that Thor 3 will impact everything that comes after it and it's the last movie before Infinity War part 1, so that could mean an appearance from Thanos after whatever happens in the movie and grabs the space gem in the mid credits.

Why don't they put Loki and Doctor Strange in the same room?
British orgasm alert!
Tom Hiddleston and Cumberbatch are friends in real life it would be an amazing dynamic to see those two in character.

I get your logic about the collector, however in gotg the other said " our sources within kyln" when talking about gamora's betrayal of thanos.
