Once again The Dark Knight Rises has taken a place in another top ten list, this time the film has taken the number one spot in IMDb's Top 10 User-Rated Movies of 2012. The Avengers however has managed to take second place along with The Amazing Spider-man taking fifth place.
Both The Dark Knight Rises and The Avengers have proved to huge successes, with both making over $1 billion at the box office and being very well received by the general audience and critics alike.

1)The Dark Knight Rises
Our users say: "The best thing about this movie is how satisfying it is. It doesn't leave you frustrated or confused. You can't really complain that it didn't explore certain ideas or follow through. By deciding to have an official ending to this trilogy's story, the themes surrounding Batman are very fresh. We don't know where he'll end up. It's not the same old thing about whether he can continue to be Batman or not, which was already getting repetitive in Spider-man 2. The conclusions are not as important as the feelings they invoke as they come about. Nolan is especially good at capturing the complete tension of actually not knowing what will happen and deeply questioning what you *want* to happen and why." ”

2) The Avengers
Our users say: "This is the purest comic book movie I have ever seen, and for that reason alone it works. Everything, from the writing to the action to the humour to the chemistry between characters to even the pacing feels like it was pulled straight from the pages of the lavishly ludicrous, and having one of the gods of cult sci-fi/fantasy, not to mention a comic book writer, at the helm of this movie was probably the only way this movie could have possibly met with everyone's expectations." ”

3)The Hunger Games
4)Prometheus

5)The Amazing Spider-Man
Our users say: "Spider-Man has always been a hero all readers could relate to, with his transition from outcast to hero and his various personal, real-world struggles. Andrew Garfield, sexy nerd incarnate, is an ace casting choice. The actor has said that playing Spider-Man has been his dream since he was a young boy and the role went to the right guy. Garfield has an effortless, genuine charm and his slightly lanky proportions do seem very reminiscent of the Peter Parker of the comics, particularly the Ultimate version."

6)Skyfall
7)Ted
8)Twilight: Breaking Dawn
9)The Expendables 2
10)Magic Mike

This is bound to stir up controversy with The Dark Knight Rises proving to be both loved and hated by people within the comic book community and The Avengers seeming to be the more faithful comic book adaptation. What do you think?

The editors on this site are posting this to start a flame war between Marvelites and Nolanites, and not actually reporting on comic book movie news, related info, and achievements. Avengers was blahblahblah and the TDKR was pure blahblahblah.....

...Whedon is my shepherd,, I shall not want.......................Firefly.

There, I saved a lot people time and energy.

Oh for the love of God - can we just agree that they're both great movies? We have our personal favorites, let's leave it at that.

People have said it countless times on this site but can't we just be very thankful and excited that superhero and comic book films are some of the biggest and best of the year?
The big two grossed over $1 billion each, and are at the top of many lists for Best Movies of 2012.
The Avengers - made $1.5 billion, and while it's light-hearted, it's incredibly fun! Plus, Joss Whedon at the helm.
The Dark Knight Rises - made $1 billion. I will agree that it had it's problems and plot-holes, but nearly everything was made up for in that incredible ending.
The flame wars need to stop.

Um guys? Have you noticed you're simply fighting with yourselves and that there isn't a Nolanite comment to be seen? There hasn't been a single Nolanite comment or poll hack since the Marvelite retaliation yesterday.

I really love Dark Knight Rises and it deserves the number one spot.

Even when there are so many plot holes, so many contrived plot points, completely pointless scenes that absolutely serve no purpose at all, a lame villain with a comedic voice over, huge volume displacement, and poor storytelling and narrative.

The movie is just sooooo good it's so easy to ignore all these MAJOR failings of the movie.

@DarthBane: the motorcycles are parked at the basement?
- It was evening, you know evening right? and it was never said that it's midnight anyway.

He brought provisions, do you even watch the movie? And it's not a plot hole if you just use half of your imagination. He's Batman for godsake and if he can live 7 years without any help from his fortune (Batman Begins), then YES he can find his way out and all back to Gotham.

Been waiting for Avengers for so long and.......

AVENGERS was total awesomeness, RISES was meh with a crap weak ending and plot holes galore... saying that I don't hate Batman, one of my favorite characters, can't wait to see him in the Justice League movie!

Fingers crossed it'll even beat Avengers!

@TheYoungMan
I apologies, I was originally under the impression The Avengers was more well recieved by film critics due to the film having a higher score on Rotten Tomatoes than The Dark Knight Rises, however after looking at a couple of other sites, it's become more apparent that it is much more mixed with TDKR sometimes gaining a score than The Avengers and vice versa. I will remove that section now.
