Emmy Award-winning actor Powers Boothe passed away in his sleep on Sunday at the age of 68. Known for his start in Shakespearean roles and Westerns, the Texan actor also had several prominent film and television roles, including his award-winning portrayal of Jim Jones in Guyana Tragedy: The Story of Jim Jones, along with roles in Deadwood, Tombstone, and 24.

The actor was best known to comic fans for appearing in both The Avengers and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. as Gideon Mallick, a member of the World Security Council who was later revealed as a head of Hydra in season 3 of the show. Additionally, Boothe appeared in both Sin City films, and was credited for various voice work in DC animation, specifically as Gorilla Grodd in the Justice League animated series.

Boothe is survived by his wife, Pam Cole, and two children.

Sad to hear. RIP.

I don't recommend being a villain and having your character killed off on AoS.

What stands out in my memory is when he was up for an Emmy for "Guyana Tragedy" - there was an actors strike at the time and very few actors attended the ceremony. He was the only award winner to show up and accept his prize. In "crossing the picket line", he drew a lot of ire from his fellow actors and it may have affected his career afterwards, but I have always admired him for that...

@Canary - Thank you for that story. It wasn't "his" fault there was a strike, so I don't blame him for going.

68 is nothing.
But i'm happy that, at the very least, he died of natural death.

@NateBest - this site has been crashing repeatedly for me since yesterday. I want to know if the problem is on my end or it's something with the servers.

@noahthebest - Not sure, but three times yesterday when I was reading comments, the page switched to some b.s. ad telling me my PC notified some website and it wanted money from me to fix a problem.

If it happens again, I will contact the owner of this site to see what can be done. There might be some ad that is doing something fishy.

I remember watching him in "Sin City" as Senator Roarke and thinking to myself how much he resembled the moustached Bruce Wayne in "The Dark Knight Returns". Can you imagine if they would have made a live-action version of TDKR with Powers Booth as Bruce/Batman? As much as I loved Peter Weller's performance in the animated version, I was hoping they would have given the role to Mr. Booth. Sad day. RIP, sir.

I first notice him when HBO way back in 1983 did it'd first original series Philip Marlow. Was a fan ever since. Really wish they would release that series on DVD or Blu-ray. #RIP Mr. Boothe.
