BATGIRL: J.K. Simmons In Talks To Return As Commissioner Jim Gordon For HBO Max Feature

Some great news for fans of J.K. Simmons' interpretation of Jim Gordon here, as the Justice League actor is in talks to reprise the role of the GCPD Commissioner for the upcoming Batgirl HBO Max movie.

With the "SnyderVerse" now seemingly a thing of the past, we thought we'd most likely seen the last of J.K. Simmons' take on Commissioner Jim Gordon, but the Academy Award-winning actor is not quite done with the role yet!

THR reports that Simmons is currently in negotiations to reprise the role of the legendary lawman for the upcoming HBO Max Batgirl movie.

Simmons made his debut as Gordon in Justice League, but only appeared in a couple of scenes. He did have a little more to do in Zack Snyder's director's cut, but Batgirl should finally give him the opportunity to fully inhabit the role. It was recently announced that In The Heights star Leslie Grace will play the lead role of Barbara Gordon, aka Batgirl.

Bad Boys For Life directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are set to helm the DC Comics adaptation. Christina Hodson, who wrote Bumblebee and also worked on Birds of Prey and The Flash, penned the most recent draft of the script.

Avengers director Joss Whedon was originally attached to helm Batgirl, but parted ways with the project back in 2018 after claiming that he failed to "crack the story." Adil and Bilall successfully revitalized the Bad Boys franchise with the highly profitable third installment, and also helmed episodes of the upcoming Disney+ Ms. Marvel series.

Plot details are still under wraps, but there's speculation that Firefly might be introduced as the villain. No official release date has been announced, but the movie is reportedly scheduled to hit HBO Max sometime in 2023.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Could've always married a woman who was. Or adopted. Not that hard lol

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - Continuity in the comics has changed often with this, but in many incarnations Jim Gordon is actually not Barbara's biological father.

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - The J in his name actually stands for Juan

@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 -

Do to the timeline of batman year one, she was actually adopted post crisis. (Originally barbara was going to be the baby but timeline didnt work)

She was Gordon’s niece who he adopted after his brother and sister-in-law died.

Although from what ive heard it was eventually retconned to jim having slept with the sister in law before the wedding and barbara was his daugter

Maybe Jim's wife had an affair and he's being a good guy raising another Man's child.
Staying with his Wife, making his marriage work.
Who are we to judge him?

Makes sense he's returning for Batgirl. Already kinda assumed that movie wasn't connected to the Reeves' Batman movie anyway.

@TheDoctor1225 - also that, but that movie looks very specific in atmosphere, while the crew working on Batgirl looks more aimed at making a fairly general in style blockbuster flick.

@bkmeijer - MCU shifts tone all the time. Captain America: The First Avenger is tonally different to Winter Soldier which is a million miles away from Guardians of the Galaxy.

@GwenLantern - yeah, but they all have a similar atmosphere. What I mean by that is more that The Batman feels way more stylized, whereas Captain America and Guardians of the Galaxy just makes me wanna cheer for Cap and Quill when they save the day (and what I presume will also be the case with Batgirl).

And also, Batgirl feels like a quips and big CGI third act movie, and The Batman doesn't.

@kingjoeg - I'm so [frick]ing confused. So the Batgirl movie is on HBOmax but still connected to the Snyderverse...while they're still doing a Gotham PD show on HBOmax that is connected to the Batman?

I thought a man at his age would have a 20 year old daughter. I love Simmons but it doesn’t make sense. She’s no longer Batgirl, she’s BatWoman. Honestly I don’t care just make it worth watching.

I just assumed this would be part of the Pattinson Bat-verse. Very odd.

Then again, more JK is never a bad thing. So, ya know, whatever.

He's ok as Gordon. Could have made one hell of an Earth One Alfred, training Bruce Whiplash style though.

As long as he can balance being both Gordon and J.J. in the MCU, I'm cool with it.

If J.K. is in it as Gordon then I'll feel an investment in watching it. He is wonderful as Gordon, even with the little he's gotten to do.

I'm very excited for this and very scared at DC / Warner Brothers do not know what the f*** they are doing right now. So it's hard to get invested in characters that has no connection. The suicide squad looks very great and fantastic but then again Matt Reeves can bring any of those characters and his movie because those characters don't count 😕🤔. So I'm just going to support and see what everything goes 🦇
