Following his time and universe-hopping adventure with Barry Allen and Supergirl in The Flash, Michael Keaton will don the Dark Knight's famous cape and cowl once again for HBO Max's Batgirl. There is still a lot of mystery surrounding his return, but one thing we do know for sure thanks to some recent set pictures is that the actor will be suiting up as the Caped Crusader once again.

Keaton has kept quiet about his return in Batgirl, but he recently took to Instagram to share a set picture of his Batman shadow, presumably from the set of Barbara Gordon's standalone adventure.

During an appearance on SiriusXM's The Jess Cagle Show with Julia Cunningham, Keaton explained how his return as Batman came about, and expressed his excitement for his role in The Flash

"[Batman] was what it was. [...] And then [Batman Forever], I just couldn't do. I just thought, 'Ooh, this is not good. Not good. I just can't do it.' [...] So, I walked away. And then, as time went on, it's like I caught up with the culture, I guess [...] Everything that's happened in that world — the superhero world, and [...] the zeitgeist of all that stuff, I was really out of it, to be honest. And at some point, you're a jerk if you don't go, 'Well, this is a legitimate world. You're not better or worse than this.' [...] So, when it came around again, first of all, I was getting curious about it. I thought, 'Boy, what would that be like?' [...] And then, coincidentally, there [were] murmurs. I got a call from Warner Bros. They wanted to talk to me about something, and there [were] hints of Batman, but I think it was about some other thing regarding Batman. I don't know what it was. [...] And I got a call later saying, 'Hey, [we want you] to read something.' And I just thought, 'Of course you have to do this, but it has to be good. There's no reason to do it if it's not good.' [...] So, it's really good, and I just jumped in and had fun. And why would you not? Director Andy Muschietti is fantastic and really creative. I don't know... it's fun."

Given that the actor shared a picture of himself on the Batgirl set, it's safe to say he is indeed having fun reprising Bruce Wayne for the big screen.

Batgirl does not have a release date yet, but it's expected to come out on HBO Max in 2022.

Awesome. Let's hope they don't "Skywalk" him.

@Fogs - You mean deep dive into the character, giving the actor the opportunity for a career-best performance? Or you mean turn him into a dead-eyed CGI meat puppet with a robot voice?

@Jrazz - "career best performance" that he hated and thought was completely out of character, written by a guy who has never seen a Star Wars movie let alone the one that came before his. That movie was trash and always will be trash

@Jrazz - Haha. Is that what you call The Last Jedi?

Sure, it may have been one of Hamill's best performances. But they ruined the character.

@Jrazz - If you dive deep into the character in a way that is out of character, the quality of the performance can't save the story. It literally doesn't matter because it doesn't ring true.

And I don't care if Luke is less emotive in Boba Fett. He's a space monk, he's more chill these days.

@Jrazz - I agree with Mark on his "Jake Skywalker" take.

Well I guess it doesn't really matter what the character is about.

Cause people crying is SO MUCH MORE DEEP AND INTERESTING than someone true to the principles that drive their lives.

That's so telling of the times we're in.

Sadly the merging of different film universes is really putting me off this film. I just think the whole thing is gonna take away from actual Batgirl getting a good story

I think it's nice to see Keaton again, but I hope they don't over do it. I hope it's an extended cameo with some de aging. Don't want an old Bruce mentoring a young/new Batgirl. Save that for Batman Beyond.

Use old Keaton how he should be used.

WB really must of 'Cut the Cheque' as 50 says to get him back on board though.

Keaton's Batman was nuts. Wonder if they'll still have him casually killing criminals.

Still can’t believe they thought this was better than just giving us a normal connected universe with a normal Batman.
UnderBelly

@OmegaBlack13 - I can see why. It doesn't make sense to bring in another new face. We just lost Batfleck, got pretty boy twilight, who I don't mind.

So they bank on the nostalgia to sell subscriptions.

@OmegaBlack13 - Because DC/WB don't understand how connected universes work...

@UnderBelly - It's insane to call Pattinson "pretty boy Twilight" when he has one of the densest and best indie resumes in film today. Just watch Good Time, at least.

@BestAtWhatIDo - Oh the guy can act, no two ways about it. I quite liked him in Devil All The Time and The King recently. he plays a good bad guy. Still a pretty boy though, but there's nothing wrong with that, as he's obviously so much more.

Everyone loves Keaton’s Batman but I haven’t seen anyone say they wanted him back. It wouldve been a neat idea if he was in BvS but this mixing pot of the DC movies aint it for me
