BATGIRL Set Photos Seemingly Show Michael Keaton Suited-Up As Batman

New pictures from the set of the upcoming Batgirl movie appear to show Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne back in a batsuit very similar to the one he wore in 1989's Batman. Take a look...

30 years after starring in Batman Returns, Michael Keaton is returning to the DC Films Universe as Batman. The actor will first reprise the role in The Flash, which, as The Hollywood Reporter revealed, is expected to set up his version of Bruce Wayne as a prominent presence in the DCEU moving forward. Keaton will then appear in HBO Max's Batgirl movie starring Leslie Grace.

Unlike his part in Barry Allen's solo adventure, not much has been revealed about his involvement in Batgirl. Earlier this year, a set picture from the film surfaced online, featuring a mural of what looked like Keaton's Caped Crusader alongside (an unidentified) Robin. It made fans wonder if he actor would get to suit up as the Dark Knight once again, or whether he would play a more mentor-oriented role for Barbara Gordon, similar to how he was portrayed in the Batman Beyond television series.

The nature of Keaton's role in the film is still largely unclear, but it looks like the actor will indeed get back into the batsuit. The Batgirl Film News Twitter page recently shared some set pictures from Batgirl, showing what looks like Michael Keaton's Bruce Wayne in his signature costume:

The pictures are blurry, so it's difficult to make out any significant details, but the suit does look similar to the one Keaton sported in Tim Burton's 1989 movie. It's worth mentioning that Keaton may not necessarily be the person in the suit here, as it could be a stunt double.

Now, before getting excited about Keaton's Batman still being active in the DCEU, it's possible that this is simply a flashback scene. Granted, it's not outside the realm of possibility that the Dark Knight is still out there fighting crime. There have been, after all, versions of the character that have continued their superhero crusades into an advanced age.

Michael Keaton is not the only actor returning to their DC role for Batgirl. He will be joined by J.K. Simmons, who will reprise his role as Gotham City Police Commissioner Jim Gordon — Barbara Gordon's father — following his appearance in 2017's Justice League and 2021's Zack Snyder's Justice League.

Batgirl doesn't have a release date yet, but it's expected to drop on HBO Max at some point in 2022.

I know this is some far off dream that will never happen but I hope there's a post-credit scene that's basically the recreation of Batman Beyond's premiere, leading into that movie. Keaton is at the PERFECT age to play Bruce at that age at the beginning of the show.

@Himura -
Surely it's the most interesting way to take a live action Batman. Really hope they do it soon

@Himura - there is hope with the multiverse. I think we are already seeing this with Batgirl being more comicbook while The Batman is being more grounded.

@Himura - I’d be down for a Batman beyond movie as much as the next guy. However I think it needs to be in that sort of blade runner future from the show

@Himura - I’m pretty sure this Batgirl movie IS more or less Batman Beyond. It seems to be taking a lot of elements from it.

@Moriakum - Bat variants everywhere!
I love the character like most of us, but oversaturation is the word imo.

I'm honestly kind of hopeful with this film. Sure, it won't be a masterpiece or classic in any genre, but I think it might turn out a decent batfamily movie and that's something I've actually been sort of hoping for.

I like Keaton, but he's literally SEVENTY years old. It's kind of embarrassing and sad to see actors like this dragged back into roles that they're much too old for now. Same goes for Harrison Ford with Indy, Han etc.

We all enjoyed those characters and their performances, but these guys are much too old to be taken seriously in these type of parts at their ages now. Nothing is lamer than a soccer mom who thinks she can still hang with the cool kids.

Man.... I'm kinda giving up on DC. They are so [frick]ing brilliant at missing the mark everytime. They are as tone deaf to the audience, it's unreal. Everytime they get so [frick]ing close to fulfilling our dreams just to [frick] it up majorly.

Oh, you want a DCCU just like the MCU? Well here's a rushed cinematic universe that's a broken mess.

Oh, you want to see the Justice League come together like the AVENGERS? Well here's the Josstice League.

Oh, you want us to bring Micheal [frick]ing Keaton, the GOAT Batman, back to reprise his role as an aged Bruce Wayne for a Batman Beyond movie? Well we actually hot him to agree to come back!!! And for multiple films!!! Here's The Flash and Batgirl.

So [frick]ing close to nailing it everytime, then they absolutely violently explosive diarrhea shit the bed.

@ElricReturns - While I agree with you overall, I can't agree that DC/WB has ever been close to nailing it and I gave up on DC flicks a long time ago. Everything they've done has been rushed, desperate, grabasstic, and scattershot.

They've TRIED to mimic the MCU formula and failed miserably at it. Now, they're left with a disjointed universe, if you can even call it that, with several Batmans, Jokers, etc who may or may not be in the same continuity, depending on what you read.

Overall, the movies have ranged in quality from mediocre at best to horrible imo. They've all felt forced, disjointed, rushed, sloppy, and soulless. I have no interested in ever seeing this Flash movie with Miller (dreadful) or Keaton in a cameo and probably will just watch clips with the scenes he's in when it's online for free, but as far as paying to see a DC/WB flick, no way.

@Feralwookiee - I wouldn’t say they all were rushed, sloppy, or joyless. A majority have been bad for certain, but they’ve had a few good movies (ex. Shazam, WW, Joker)

I doubt they have a final game plan but I’m betting they’ll use the Flash movie as vehicle to say all the multiverses are connected. (Similar to what they did with Ezra cameo appearance on the CW the Flash).
Feralwookiee
Feralwookiee - 2/13/2022, 11:40 AM
@Arthorious - Yeah, I can't agree with that opinion. Even the supposed "best" DC movies Shazam and WW are mediocre imo, with WW actually being quite subpar through most of it's runtime due to Gadot's terrible "acting" and a very dull 3rd act.

@ElricReturns - as long as the movies are good/great that is all that matters.

@Feralwookiee - To each their own, I did find the 3rd act of WW to be let down but it didn’t ruin the experience.
