BATGIRL Star Leslie Grace Teases "Badass" Barbara Gordon Who Will Be "Fighting Lots of People"

Batgirl is set to arrive on HBO Max sometime next year, and star Leslie Grace has now revealed how she was cast, her comic book research, and promised her "badass" Barbara Gordon will see plenty of action.

In The Heights star Leslie Grace will suit up as Barbara Gordon in the Batgirl movie coming to HBO Max, and the actress recently told Variety what led to her joining the DC Extended Universe.

It turns out that she was asked to jump on a last-minute Zoom for a final casting test before being told she should read the text in an email they sent her. "I open it and it says, 'I’m Batgirl'...and my brain broke," Grace recalled. "It was an incredible moment. When I mean incredible, I mean the textbook definition of, I could not believe it. My brain actually broke when I got the news."

While the actress couldn't reveal any specifics about the DC Comics movie, she did confirm that her first job after being cast was to take a deep dive into the source material. "That was my first question - what do I read? I’m like, 'Send me everything I need to learn.' I just bought every comic and just starting asking so many questions."

As for what fans can expect, Grace added: "I will tell you this, Batgirl is a badass. She’s definitely going to be fighting lots of people. She’ll be very hands-on. She’s got a lot to prove."

It's hard not to be excited reading these comments, especially as Grace's enthusiasm is clear to see. That's bound to translate to what we see on screen in a positive way, and even though Batgirl is heading to HBO Max, it sounds like there will be plenty of action for fans of this character to enjoy.

We're not expecting a first look at this one for a while, but do know that Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah are directing Batgirl (written by Christina Hodson) for a 2022 release.

You know despite the birds of prey tv series’s terrible quality. It did have a damn good take on Barbara Gordon/Oracle

Hopefully this is the first good live action adaption of members of Batman’s supporting cast

Birds of prey show : sucks
Titans : sucks
Batwoman : sucks
Birds of prey movie : sucks

Seriously the gotham characters are the most intetesting group of heroes and villains in comics, how come these have not worked

Am hopeful for this movie.

I'd like the modern idea of Batgirl being a teenage superhero more or less independant from Batman in her beginnings, trying to prove herself and to help her commissioner father... only to end up regularly on his bad side, breaking a few laws here and there, and ultimately having a tense professional relationship with him that begins to affect their family life.

I could see the Batmen of all Nations on the Batgirl movie. They can be a team of young heroes inspired by Batman.

This is the perfect opportunity for these characters. Also, I can imagine Batgirl alongside the young heroes of the Batman fan club. XD

Doing a film about a girl inspired by Batman......with no Batman in it.......

How is this even gonna work? The interesting part of Batgirl's origin is when she runs into Batman and Robin while doing this fangirl thing.

It's giving me Venom vibes - take a character very heavily linked to the main franchise but take away all links to the main franchise. Worried this film is gonna disappoint.
