Watch Tom Hardy's Audition For Bane STARK TREK: NEMESIS

Featuring Patrick Stewart, Tom Hardy's initial audition for 2002's Star Trek: Nemesis includes a LOT of similar mannerisms and vocal inflections as the villain he played in this year's The Dark Knight Rises; Bane. Hit the jump to check it out!

Before he became one of the most sought after actors in Hollywood (with roles in the likes of Bronson, Inception and This Means War), Tom Hardy played Praetor Shinzon, the villainous clone of Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) in Star Trek: Nemesis. The following audition tape which has recently surfaced online, shows that his audition for the 2002 film was a little different to the final version. However, it should definitely seem at least a little familiar to those of you who have seen his fantastic performance as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises. In Christopher Nolan's final Batman film, the British actor had to rely on his eyes and voice to portray the masked villain, and if you watch closely, you can definitely see and hear early signs of his take on the classic comic book baddie who broke the Bat. Check it out below and sound off with your thoughts in the usual place.

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ "The Dark Knight Rises" is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster "The Dark Knight." The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

Gary Oldman as Commissioner Jim Gordon

Not so good id say the dialogue is not believable for Hardy but for Stewart flawless. Watch Bronson and Warrior if you want to see Hardy at his finest. He is a fantastic actor but looks amateur her.

First role I ever saw him in. These actors connected, and it's a shame the rest of the movie was so tired.

Tom Hardy: No versatility, ergo Shinzon (Star Trek Nemesis) and Bane = Boredom. IMHO

You can see a lot of similarities to Tom's performance as Bronson during the scene in TDKR when he is on the tumbler reading Gordon's speech. Specifically the scenes where Bronson is on the "stage" talking to the audience.

@Yoss - Do not watch that movie! It sucks so bad you'll want to throw your television out the window. Watch First Conact instead, only good movie with the TNG crew.

This is the worst Star Trek made. I haven't seen TDKR yet, now I have even less expectations for it.

Hardy for Darkside!!!!!

Hardy is a fantastic actor and can portray many different characters without seeming like you have seen the same character in a different movie.

Awesome! lmao!

Worst Star Trek is a toss-up between Final Frontier and Search For Spock, but I think the worst TNG was Insurrection.

@ cosmicstranger - No versatility?! How can you say that?!

Star Trek
Bronson
Inception
Warrior
This Means War
TDKR

yeah, all the same character aren't they? Strange how an actor with no versatility can gain so much critical acclaim for VERY different roles.

Other than his inflection on a couple of words, I don't really see a lot of similarities between this and Bane. He was great as Bane, what with the mask and all. Looks amateurish here.

I saw Tom Hardy in a Syfy channel movie a couple years after Star Trek Nemesis came out called Minotaur. He has really moved up in the world going from Minotaur to The Dark Knight Rises.
gaikinger
gaikinger - 7/31/2012, 2:43 PM
Search for Spock was a great Trek with Christopher Loyd chewing up the scenery as the renegade Klingon captain. Agreed that Final Frontier was the absolute worst directed by guess who. Resurrection was good as a TV episode but not theatre quality. Tom hardy was the best thing about Nemesis and makes everything he is in just for having him. The new Star Trek films are amazing and can't wait to see where they go with them.
