5 Reasons Why Jesse Eisenburg MIGHT not be a bad Lex Luthor

It sounds crazy, I know, but read on to see why...

Okay, so we just received the most AMAZING news of all! A huge fan-favorite option has been chosen; Jeremy Irons is Alfred Pennyworth. Yay!

So that's my- wait! What? Jesse 'Zombie Wimp Facebook Zuckerburg' Eisenburg is Lex Luthor?!

What?! That... could probably work.

Let me tell you why:

1. He's An Experienced Actor.
He's portrayed various roles in his career, starting in 1999, so he has a good amount of years of experience.

2. He's Also An Academy Nominated Actor.
This guy starred in many films, good and bad(who hasn't?) which includes a few highly nominated films including: 'The Squid and the Whale, Adventureland, Zombieland' (That's a lot of lands), and a HUGE listing of nominations and wins for 'The Social Network at the Academy Awards and other various award shows.'

3. He's a Proper Age.
Okay, so as soon as I heard this news I said the same thing you said: What? He's a teenager!!! Actually, contrary to what most people think, he's actually 30 years old. His birthdate shows October 5, 1983. I did a check on Superman's Henry Cavill's birthdate and found his to be May 5, 1983. BOTH ARE 30 YEARS OLD!! The only difference is that Henry Cavill has a more mature look, while Jesse has a much younger face. But if you know movies like I do, if they can turn Chris Evans into a small wimpy kid then Warner Bros. can do something about Jesse. At least that hair. Oh please Warner Bros. make him get rid of that awful curly hair... anyways moving on!

4. He's Played A 'Cold-Hearted, Callous Businessman' Before.
If anyone says he can't play evil you're dead wrong! He's played the innocent puppy in Zombieland and turned to The Social Network and created an incredible transformation to a cold-hearted, yet INTELLIGENT business man filled with selfish and back-stabbing tendencies. Sounds a bit like Luthor doesn't it?

If you haven't seen the movie, The Social Network, check out this clip to get a better idea of what I'm talking about.

5. "Comedic" Actors Can Play the Darkest Roles.
He's not necessarily comedic actor but most of his most famous roles have been comedic roles and I'm sure that makes you believe him to be a comedic actor. Fine. But in the many films that I have seen, comedic actors have played in amazing dramatic and serious, yet sometimes scary roles.

Let me give you some examples:

Steve Carell: Foxcatcher

Robin Williams: One Hour Photo

And Last But Not Least,
Bryan Cranston: Malcolm in the Middle and Breaking Bad

So like it or hate it, Jesse Eisenburg is our Lex Luthor.
Personally I am CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC.

So does this change your mind?

Hate it? Love it? On the Fence?

LOL. Brace yourselves, endless editorials on Eisenberg as Luthor are coming.

Seriously though, don't let us guys ruin the fun. Good article, and if you think he's going to knock it out of the park, great! But let's wait for the actual movie to come out, or some trailers, or even some set pics before making final judgments either way.

@Sauron: Exactly, I agree. Because I've always thought the funniest guys can also be the scariest cause they're so unexpected in their roles. We all had the misfortune of discounting Anne Hathaway and Heath Ledger for their decisions but in the end they came out on top so I'm going to give Eisenburg a chance.

Look on the bright side; no one's complaining about Amy Adams' hair color anymore.

But I actually don't think this is necessarily a bad choice. There are a lot of interesting ways Snyder and Goyer can go with this. Let's just hope they use one of them.

All WB needs to do next is cast Will Smith for Green Latern John Stewart.
and get on with the GL Reboot (or sequel if you wanna keep that GL universe).

I agree. Im cautiously optimistic. I think with the right material he can pull it off, and remember he must have done something right in his audition to get the part

Jesse is a silver tongue...just like Luthor! Font know how he will end up when he is bald and told to nail that kind of character with guile, underlying authoritorianism and somehow a Scorpion natured mind...but surely he deserves a chance. I liked him in Now you see me...the looking in the eye of the police and taunting then, it had a vibe to be reckoned for a character like Luthor! Lets wait n watch what this turns to...

I'm not mad about it, The Social Network (one of my favourite films of all time) gives me hope, but he's gotta lose that hair and his awful voice.

He's not a bad actor, he's actually really good, I like him a lot, just not for this role. If anyone, I think he'd be great Riddler, I wanted someone older for Lex (around Affleck's age), but that's clearly not happening now. This is the only real casting choice that has disheartened me slightly about this film, Irons as Alfred is great (would've prefferred him for Ra's) but Eisenberg just doesn't do it for me; Lex is basically a smarter and more ruthless Batman- Eisenberg isn't even close to fitting that description.

Solid article and solid points you raised though, hope you can check out my theories for the sequel, would appreciate any comments;

You know, had I not just watched Coven's finale directly before reading the news, I would have probably gone apeshit. Now, I just don't care. I've got to wait for it to sink in, and by then, this will be old news.

Actual age doesn't really mean anything when you can't shake that boyish look. So clearly they are meaning to give Luthor a very entitled characteristic. If he can do a different voice, then great. All I know is, the more times I watch Zombieland, the more I don't like it because of Jesse Eisenburg's voice. Stupid, I know.

Not entirely sure if that's the case in the comics, but it is my opinion (forgot to write there lol), the way I see it; Batman is the better genius detective/tactician whilst Lex is overall the better genius scientist/tactician, with his ruthlessness giving him a little more edge if that makes sense...
