AGATHA ALL ALONG Stills Released Along With First Story Details For Marvel Television Series

Following today's trailer debut, Marvel has released the first stills from Agatha All Along. We also have an official plot synopsis along character names for several of the WandaVision sequel's leads.

Earlier today, Disney+ released a new trailer and poster for the upcoming WandaVision spin-off/follow-up, Agatha All Along (you can check it out here if you missed it). 

Now, we have a handful of stills from a series which, according to a Marvel Studios press release, follows Agatha Harkness "as she sets off on a dangerous, mysterious adventure filled with trials and tribulations." It's also been confirmed that Jac Schaeffer, WandaVision's Head Writer, is directing the pilot episode. 

"Pilot episode" is how it's officially described in the aforementioned press release, suggesting Agatha All Along shot a pilot before being given a full season order. As far as we're aware, that's a first for an MCU TV show.

We also have a synopsis for Agatha All Along revealing more about what to expect from the show:

"In 'Agatha All Along,' the infamous Agatha Harkness finds herself down and out of power after a suspicious goth Teen helps break her free from a distorted spell. Her interest is piqued when he begs her to take him on the legendary Witches' Road, a magical gauntlet of trials that, if survived, rewards a witch with what they’re missing. Together, Agatha and this mysterious Teen pull together a desperate coven, and set off down, down, down The Road..."

We also have some character names, including Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza), Lilia Calderu (Patti LuPone), Ali Ahn (Alice Wu-Gulliver), Jennifer Kale (Sasheer Zamata), Mrs. Hart/Sharon Davis (Debra Jo Rupp), and...Teen (Joe Locke).

Yes, it appears the plan is to refer to Locke's character as "Teen" for now, suggesting Marvel Studios intends to keep the fact he's playing Billy Maximoff/Wiccan, the son of the Scarlet Witch, under wraps for now.

"What they have in common is that they’re covenless witches," Schaeffer previously said of Agatha All Along's leads. "Witches are defined by deception, treachery, villainy and selfishness. What do you do when you have a group of witches who [demonstrate] those notions and you need them to work together?"

"[Where] WandaVision played with the form of classic TV sitcoms, [here] we do a lot of playing with what the assumptions about witches are," she continued. "Like, what are the shorthand visuals for witches? We certainly didn’t want a one-dimensional nasty witch. We will have moments where we see Agatha’s true heart."

In addition to Kathryn Hahn, Agatha All Along stars Joe Locke, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, with Debra Jo Rupp, Patti LuPone, and Aubrey Plaza. The executive producers are Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum,  Mary Livanos and Jac Schaeffer.

The directors for the series include Jac Schaeffer, Rachel Goldberg and Gandja Montiero. Agatha All Along premieres on September 18 with the first two episodes, exclusively on Disney+.

@FireandBlood - that's a good assessment. Never thought about it that way, but that has been the case for a lot of MCU stuff of late for me.

I'll get to it. Eventually. I don't need to watch it ASAP anymore or try to actively stay away from spoilers

Interesting that it says Agatha is broken free of her spell seemingly by Joe Locke’s character and that he is the one that is the catalyst for the Witches Road journey..

If he is Billy Kaplan/Wiccan , I wonder if he believes his mother Wanda (if she is in this version) is trapped there or something so he wants to go rescue her while Agatha just wants her power back (which makes me wonder what the other witches with her want aswell..hmmm).

Also hopefully they answer ( as I’m sure they will) how Billy is alive and in this seemingly new form and whether his brother is too or not?.

Anyway , looking forward to it since the trailer got me intrigued!!.

Actually I am pretty hyped for this

I mean, loved Agatha and love all the magic-supernatural stuff, so I was sold from the start

Can't wait to hear all the incels crying too because "wahwah it's a show with women and they scare me"

I will say it, said it before and will keep saying it. This is not even tertiary character, it's a quaternary (look it up) that mainstream doesn't know or care about. this is a massive flop and should be abandoned like batgirl. This will flop worse than The Marvels, secret wars and them we kind of knew. Doctor strange, covered magic already, it's been done, we are about superheroes, not witches, at least not in marvel. I don't remember anyone saying i want a witch comic book, its superheroes. Marvel is so out of touch, it's not even comical anymore. Massive bomb/Flop allllll the way, shit show. so many superheros that to cover and better stories and they concentrate on this. Shame on them.

@cubichy - and to be fair and play Devil's Advocate, many people were saying the same thing when Guardians of the Galaxy was announced. I, along with so many others questioned why they would bring in such unknowns that early into the MCU when there were so many other known characters to do. I'm not saying Agatha will even be good but just using the whole "nobody knows who these characters are so why make this when there are better characters that haven't been introduced yet" is a weak argument against something.... that being said, I'll watch this because I'm a completionist but I don't have any expectations. Hoping it will entertain me.

@Hoot3 - you know, I get this argument a lot and when the MCU firts started, everyone was dying for new content, no matter what came out. If GOTG came out today, it would Tank, cause we have the marvels, quantamania, madness, love and blunder, secret invasion, all shit shows. Marvel needs to bring a-list characters and their A-game and stop bringing these shit shows and tertiary characters no one knows, they will tank. My kids won't watch superhero movies anymore, that's really bad for these studios.

@cubichy - Why would anyone think A & B list characters would ever show up on a D+ show after what happened in phase 4 with Wanda and Sam? The shows didn't help the movies and were too damn expensive as ad-free mini-series. Lower tier characters are exactly what you should expect.

@cubichy - It's not bad at all for the studios. In fact, it's the exact opposite. It reaches beyond JUST the comic book fans and piques the interest of people that are into other genres. It then gradually grows the OVERALL audience of the franchise.

As for the "no one asked for this" argument, it never goes well. Films, tv shows, music...producers aren't just sitting around waiting for something to be asked for before making it.

That said, you're also acting like Deadpool and Wolverine isn't coming out this month and that Fantastic Four has its full cast announced with preproduction underway and filming starting later this year. The A-List characters are literally right in front of us. And having tertiary characters occupy the small screen space is not a problem by any stretch. Do you collect unpopular comics? Probably not. But it doesn't mean they shouldn't exist at all. In fact, they serve a purpose even being unpopular. They can sometimes give us content that fills in gaps of other stories. And at the end of the day it just makes the overarching universe larger. AND it doesn't quickly exhaust all the popular characters too soon.

@WhateverItTakes - I have thought about that. And it's a good thing. One, these shows aren't coming out INSTEAD of other projects. They're coming out in ADDITION to other projects. Two, these smaller projects are great content to fill in the gaps between the larger scale stories. Three, 'Deadpool and Wolverine' is literally coming out in a couple weeks. Fantastic Four is ramping up into preproduction.

Things are actually looking quite good.

ill watch but i have 0 hype for this. A show no one asked for that prob will be very middle road RT and have a poor audience score.

@MotherGooseUPus - the "no one asked for this" is a pretty funny argument since no one asked for a lot of shows like Falcon and the winter boring, yet there they are.

You can have shows you don't like just like you can have comicbooks you don't like in the same universe. That's the whole point of a shared universe, you can appeal to different people

@BabyLasagna - i get it but stick with primary or even secondary characters. This is too much of a reach and it takes way from other potentially great shows. That falcon and WS, I saw it and could have been so much better, but at least most know those characters, no one knows agatha, even after watching the scarlet witch. will tank and bomb all the way and maybe then marvel will listen.

@BabyLasagna - Having a shared universe where an increasing number of the audience are skipping certain parts of it is actually hurting that shared universe.

Niche content is fine as long as the studio and actors don’t start crying when the viewership is low or audience reviews are bad.

@mountainman - yeah well, you have to expand said universe and targets, I mean i don't read ALL Marvel comics, just the ones i'm interested in. i always think about this shows that way.

I couldn't care less about Echo and Daredevil and that whole street level stuff, and I just...don't watch it.

I don't go around wishing it fails and saying "oh no one cared about this!" Just because those shows are not my vibe.

But this universe used to pride itself on inter connectivity. Dr Strange 2 confused some in the audience with wanda’s evil turn who hadn’t seen WandaVision and The Marvels, which featured 2 D+ characters in starring roles is the lowest earning MCU movie ever.

But also, you're assuming Marvel made the decision to cast Aubrey as a "throw away character". More likely is that Aubrey only wanted to commit to a small role in the first place. OR the role is going to end up being bigger. Either way, actors have all the control in the world what roles they accept and what they pass on. (Contractual situations being a different story.)

So judging by the trailer it seems like the spell that was cast on Agatha began to break when Wanda "perished".

@SonOfAGif - That would be the logical implication, that the blunt force trauma (of a mountain falling one her) resulted in her death and the spell starting to break but odds are Wanda isn't actualy dead dead and probably in a pocket dimension such as where Chthon is, or even in her comic home of Magika on Witches Road.

Anyone else things this won't do well?

I know, I'm in the minority saying that I wasn't all that impressed by the Wandavision show. I watched it because it was different...but that didn't make me invested in what was going on or care about the characters (outside of Vision because for some reason I've always dug Paul Bettany...damn you, A Knight's Tale).
