SILVER & BLACK Has Been Split Into Two Movies; SILK And JACKPOT Films Are In Development

Venom hasn't hit theaters yet, but Sony is still confidently moving forward with their cinematic Spider-Man universe, and now some new details have come out on the universe's slate of films.

According to a new report from Variety, the Gyna Prince-Bythwood directed Silver & Black movie is being scrapped, with Black Cat and Silver Sable receiving individual solo films. Prince-Bythewood will also be departing as director but will remain attached to the new solo projects as a producer.

While this decision may be surprising to fans, the president of Columbia Pictures, Sanford Panitch, did provide some insight into this decision, saying: "Black Cat is enough of her own character with a great backstory and a canon of material to draw from to justify her own film."

However, that's not the only change coming to Sony's various Marvel projects, as it was also reported that Silk and Jackpot films were also in development, with the studio actively looking for writers to pen the scripts.

Along with this news the site also noted that Sony will "experiment with budget ranges," and that they want to make comic book movies along the lines of Deadpool and Logan.

Really? And I thought Dark Phoenix was a hot mess.

@GoldGuy - who's jackpot? I'm pretty familiar with Spiderman characters, but this one eludes me.

@Oberlin4Prez - Yeah, she's pretty obscure even among Spidey fans. I've never read more than one issue with her.

She's basically your average street-level hero. There's almost nothing special about her, IMO, but here's a link if you're curious.

I remember there was a time when everyone thought the chances of Disney buying out Sony over Fox were higher... And yet here we are. How Sony's film division has managed to get this far is beyond me.

Will Black Cat be any better than Catwoman, especially since Spider-Man wouldn't be in it?

I'm scared to ask.

@GoldGuy - If you're referring to the Halle Berry movie, it would have to try REALLY hard to be worse than it.

But it won't take much, to be even a little bit better than it.
