Black Panther and Stranger Things lead the MTV Movie & TV Awards with seven and six nominations each, respectively.

Marvel Studios' cultural phenomenon is nominated for: best movie, best performance, best hero (for Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa), best villain (for Michael B. Jordan's Killmonger), best fight, best on-screen team, and scene stealer (for Letitia Wright's Shuri). The film is competing with Wonder WomanITGirls Trip, and Marvel Cinematic Universe sibling Avengers: Infinity War, for the show's top prize - best movie.

The show was reinvigerated last year by adding TV awards to the mix. Netflix original series Stranger Things, which had its second season debut last October, is nominated for: best show, best performance (for Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven), best kiss, scene stealer (for Billy Hargrove actor Dacre Montgomery), on-screen team and most frightened performance (for Will Byers actor Noah Schnapp). The show is facing Game of ThronesRiverdale, Grown-ish, and fellow Netflix original series 13 Reasons Why.

Thor: Ragnarok director and actor Taika Waititi is up for the scene stealer award for his fan-favourite role of Korg. The third Thor film is also up for best fight for its gladiatorial battle between Thor and The Hulk. Similarly, Infinity War’s all-female skirmish, which featured Black Widow, Scarlet Witch and Okoye against Proxima Midnight, is also up for best fight. And while Josh Brolin didn't get a nomination for best villain for his role as Thanos, he did get a nod.

Avengers: Infinity War – Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Danai Gurira (Okoye), Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch) vs. Carrie Coon (Proxima Midnight)

That's a... peculiar choice for best fight scene in Infinity War.

@ClipClop - The Titan one was too long to be considered a scene.

@ClipClop - Agreed. I also feel like they handicapped BP by not choosing the first BP vs Killmonger fight. Felt it was infinitely superior.

Like, just out of the choices they gave us the Atomic Blonde would be top in terms of choreography imo... and I enjoyed every other movie overall on that list more than Atomic Blonde.

@ICStoopedPeople - no doubt. The Killmomger vs T'Challa fight was incredibly well done. No disrespect to the M'Baku battle but the Killmonger fight was the best fight of the film.

@ClipClop -

They didn't even do shit in that fight.
The award should go to Atomic Blonde.

I thought the M'Baku fight was very good but the Killmonger vs T'Challa fight is infinitely better.

@Comicbookart - the staging and blocking in this scene is incredible.

Thank you Rachel Morrison. Such a well shot sequence. One of the more visually beautiful one on one fight scenes. Rare really.

@BlackBeltJones - The sunset and the choreography is amazing. They also showed the difference between their fighting styles. I wish they had kept it so grounded and practical throughout the film because those were the highlights. No suits, no flash. Just a fight.

I get that award shows are basically just popularity contests, but even for MTV this is... shocking. Infinity War, Black Panther, Wonder Woman, and IT over Get Out, Dunkirk, Call Me By Your Name, or the Shape of Water? Riverdale and 13 Reasons Why for best show? Wow.

Zoe Saldana got a star on the Walk of Fame earlier today. Figured that might be article-worthy.
