IRONHEART Star Dominique Thorne Will Make Her MCU Debut In BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER

Well, here's an intriguing development. Marvel's Kevin Feige has confirmed that Dominique Thorne will make her MCU debut as Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever...

By MarkCassidy - Aug 19, 2021 01:08 PM EST

One of the biggest reveals to come out of Disney's Investors Day last December was the news that Dominique Thorne will play Riri Williams in Disney+'s Ironheart show. Updates were few and far between since, but we now know when the If Beal Street Could Talk star will make her MCU debut as the new Armored Avenger.

Confirming a rumor that did the rounds earlier this year, Kevin Feige has officially announced (via ComicBook.com) that Williams will appear in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

"We're shooting Black Panther: Wakanda Forever right now, and the character of Riri Williams, you will meet in Black Panther 2 first," Feige revealed while doing press for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. "She started shooting, I think, this week before her Ironheart series."

Williams making her debut in the Black Panther sequel raises a few interesting questions. Will the character be retconned to be a Wakandan? Ironheart has travelled to Wakanda in the comics and became friendly with Shuri and Okoye, but only much later in her superhero career. However she ends up being introduced, it sounds like Wakanda Forever is shaping up to be a much bigger event movie than we anticipated.

We still don't know a whole lot about the Marvel sequel, but Chadwick Boseman, who tragically passed away last August after a 4-year battle with colon cancer, will not be replaced as T'Challa or "resurrected" via CGI. Shuri (Letitia Wright) is the favorite to take up the mantle of Black Panther, but some would prefer to see Winston Duke's M'Baku honor his old foe-turned-ally by assuming the responsibility of Wakanda's protector .

A rumor that Narcos Mexico actor Tenoch Huerta will play Namor in the movie recently did the rounds, but that obviously remains to be seen.

Marvel Studios announced that the highly-anticipated sequel will be titled Wakanda Forever during a recent Phase 4 preview. Specific plot details remain under wraps, but a brief logline tells us that "Wakanda Forever will continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film."

@BlackBeltJones - Guessing she wont suit up. Wonder what will be her reason for being there. Joked a while ago about Spider-Man 4 being Peter going to Wakanda for a student exchange program, could that be happening

@dracula - don't give them ideas.

Rather just have a Spider-Man story where he goes to university in NYC, where he meats fellow student Harry, Gwen and Mary Jane and teachers Curt Connors, Otto Octavius and Miles Warren.

It's probably too much to ask, but I still wanna see it.

@Polaris - Yeah I seem to recall there being a rumor that there were scenes for BP2 that were going to be shot at MIT. And ten there was some discussion here about why would they be shooting at MIT and someone suggested that maybe Shuri goes there for some reason and meets Riri there, setting up Iron Heart. I don't recall who suggested that so I'm going to go ahead and take credit for it as I haven't really done anything productive at work today.

@dracula - I imagine RiRi being a product of Shuri’s Oakland Science Center. The once t’Challa asked her to run. In the BP post credits scene.

@Polaris - Good for me what? Good for me that I didn't do anything productive today (so far because, honestly in the WFH environment who can say when your work day ends) or good for me because I hijacked someone else's prediction? I think that either cases are reprehensible and if you are encouraging me in one or both situations then you must be a force of darkness, to which I would say "Witch! She's a witch everybody!". Or maybe I should lay off the Monty Python and go do my damn job. Ehhhhh (either-or hand gesture).

Also speaking of Shuri, I really like the way they portrayed her in the War for Wakanda expansion in the Avengers game. They handled her fun relationship with T'Challa well imo

bkmeijer2 - 8/19/2021, 1:41 PM
@PicolasCage - still waiting for the base game to drop in price here, because that expansion does look fun.

Also, how's the voice of Kratos as Black Panther? I worry that might be distracting to a certain extent.
PicolasCage
PicolasCage - 8/19/2021, 1:51 PM
@bkmeijer - the expansion is very enjoyable imo! My biggest issue with the base game is the terrible art direction. The levels are like generic forests, generic canyons, generic cities, etc. and I'm like whhyyyy you have this whole universe of awesome unique locations to draw from. And they fix that issue with this expansion, their depiction of Wakanda is gorgeous, I LOVE all the designs of the NPCs and architecture.

Also the voice is pretty solid overall, though I still prefer Chadwick. He's basically unrecognizable from Kratos though, if that's what you're worried about
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 8/19/2021, 2:03 PM
@PicolasCage - yeah that was my issue with the beta as well. That already felt all so the same (including level design and gameplay), so good to hear the expansion is a step up.

And also, great that it's distinguishable from Kratos, because than I might enjoy it more (don't know for certain until I play it)
PicolasCage
PicolasCage - 8/19/2021, 2:10 PM
@bkmeijer - since this BP expansion was the end of the current roadmap, I'm very curious to see what their next content drops will be, hopefully they update us this week or next.

After Wakanda, I'm more hopeful and excited for their ability to deliver places like Asgard, Atlantis, K'un Lun, etc. I hope they stick with iconic locations and not genetic shit like before lol
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 8/19/2021, 10:05 PM
@PicolasCage - Asgard would be pretty cool to see. Or just any of the nine realms, but I think thats less for an Avengers game and more something in general I wanna see (maybe in the GoW sequel)

JoeInTheBox - 8/20/2021, 6:23 AM
@bkmeijer - It's not the same actor, but if you're familiar with the Mass Effect games, what Judge does with T'Challa's voice makes me think of Thane from Mass Effect 2 and 3.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 8/20/2021, 7:10 AM
@JoeInTheBox - gotta admit I haven't played either, but with the Legendary Edition I am tempted to
JoeInTheBox
JoeInTheBox - 8/20/2021, 8:21 AM
@bkmeijer - It's not it's bad as some claim. If you enjoyed the Ultimate Alliance games, this feels like a 3rd person version of that(minus the ability to switch to different characters during gameplay).

If you're playing single player it's a fun beat em' up action/rpg. I will agree that once you're done with the single player campaign is where the game loses it. There's not enough endgame content to keep playing it longterm, like say Destiny does. At least they're honoring the expansions they've announced, but I feel like IF they get to the PS exclusive Spider-Man stuff, that's it for the game.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 8/20/2021, 8:32 AM
@JoeInTheBox - keep wondering when the Spider-Man stuff is supposed to drop, but in the meantime Destiny 2 is indeed the other service game I keep returning to. That is for me still the blueprint of how such games should be tackled
JoeInTheBox
JoeInTheBox - 8/20/2021, 9:23 AM
@bkmeijer - Definitely with D2. D1 was kinda slow for me, but D2 has been a consistent pleasure. I think Avengers was off to a bad start with a lackluster gameplay demo and designs that weren't "great", but the game itself was solid. I just think it's too far passed the point of gaining a strong fanbase.
bkmeijer2
bkmeijer2 - 8/20/2021, 10:26 AM
@JoeInTheBox - well in that aspect Avengers can still learn from Destiny. The first game only really picked up steam with Taken King and the second even more with New Light. And those were years in. Do hope Avengers will pick up too, since it does have potential
dracula
dracula - 8/19/2021, 1:17 PM
hopefully the dont use that terrible origin story.

Only saw the page this month, and wow that is one instant were complaints about marvel virtue signaling might be warranted. Seriously, she wanted to be talked down to by white people?

TheFinestSmack - 8/19/2021, 1:32 PM
@dracula - War Machine is already the black Iron Man token. Then they went made and tokenized a black girl. Give me new original black characters that aren't just tokens! How hard is this?

@TheFinestSmack - but she's a comic character. You know, comics. The whole thing these movies are based on
