I dont think a Black Widow centered movie works. A show similar to Agent Carter could work much better. If a movie happens, Hawkeye and other SHIELD characters should be in it. Black Widow cannot work without SHIELD, only if it predates her SHIELD time

@MalseMarcel - Why wouldn't a movie work?

As for the SHIELD element, I think it can work either way. I think stories like the Bourne Identity, some of the Mission Impossible movies, and even Captain America: TWS work well when an agent loses the support of their organization and are forced to survive and get the job done with their skill and resourcefulness alone. I would like to see Hawkeye in the movie so we could further define his character and explore that friendship, but I think it makes sense to put her in a situation in which she has a small crew of only the people she trusts most.

@BIGBMH - Its what you say, I dont think she can go full solo and needs atleast a small team around her (favorable other shield agents like hawkeye)

@MalseMarcel - At this point "solo" film is a pretty loose term within the MCU.

Thor: Thor, Sif, The Warriors Three
Captain America TFA: Captain America, The Howling Commandos
Iron Man 2: Iron Man, War Machine, Black Widow
Winter Soldier: Captain America, Black Widow, Falcon
Civil War: almost everybody
Spider-man Homecoming: Spider-man, Iron Man
Thor Ragnarok: Thor, Hulk, Valkyrie
Black Panther: Black Panther, Shuri, Nakia, the Dora Milaje

I don't think her having an ally or two means that it's not truly a Black Widow solo film.

@BIGBMH - I do see your point. But in each movie the main focus is on the titular hero and how he handles all that surrounds him (including the secondary main characters). I'd rather see a movie where Black Widow and Hawkeye are equally treated in their own journey. And in some sense, I always saw SHIELD and its agents as secondary characters in the MCU. Like I said before; I'd much rather see a tv series of those characters

@MalseMarcel - A series would be nice, but given the separation between Marvel Studios and Marvel television, it seems highly unlikely. Johansson and Renner are also actors who command pretty high salaries, so the production quality would probably need to be at a pretty high level to attract them.

@MNLawyer - I've never read A-Force, but I worry that the concept would seem forced on film. What situation would justify throwing all the female characters on a team together when their closest ties are not to each other? Instead, I'd prefer to see smaller, more natural team-ups. For example, Black Widow 2 could see her assemble a team up with the Wasp and form an unlikely partnership with Nakia when Wakanda sends her on a mission that brings her into contact with Natasha as they go after the same thing. Captain Marvel 2 could team Captain Marvel with fellow space adventurers like Gamora and Valkyrie.

@BIGBMH - What convoluted reason do we need for all male movies?
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 3/27/2018, 1:32 PM
@MNLawyer -

A) Marvel Studios hasn't made any all-male ensembles.

B) It's a different situation when you're just starting with no foundation. An all-female Ghostbusters team or Ocean's crew makes just as much sense as their all-male counterparts. In any of these situations, these are the characters we're presented so we accept that they are the best people around/ the characters the protagonist has the strongest ties to. However, a Marvel team-up that cherry picks a bunch of unconnected women and throws them together just because sounds convoluted. We know there are other people available and we know that most of these female characters' strongest ties are not to each other. If Valkyrie needs help, the only people we've seen her work with before are Thor and Hulk, so she'd go to them over strangers like BW and Scarlet Witch. If Natasha needs someone she can rely on, her closest allies are Hawkeye and Captain America.

Like I said, smaller all female team-ups with characters who can come together naturally make much more sense than a movie with Gamora, Nebula, Mantis, Black Widow, Wasp, Scarlet Witch, Nakia, Okoye, Shuri, Valkyrie and Captain Marvel uniting just because. If you have a situation dire enough to require that much firepower and diversity of skillset, I don't think you're going to be gimmicky about who you call to help.

@MNLawyer - I would prefer Lady Liberators, but A-Force seems like a solid starting point too

In association with the Avengers, I have never cared for the character. On her own either. She works better supporting characters like Daredevil or Punisher imo. Just never really cared for the character. Was a little disappointed she was in the first Avengers film over other female characters. Not sure I would be too excited about a film. And I love every single MCU film. What can they do to change my mind? I always hated the Vulture in the comics, but they made a version that I love in Homecoming. Can they change my mind about a character that already exists that I already don't love?

@WYLEEJAY - Idk. I've laid out what I think they can do with her, but if that doesn't appeal to you, maybe the character just isn't for you. Personally, in spite of Chris Hemsworth's charisma, I've found the MCU's treatment of Thor to be pretty boring. IMO, Black Widow is more interesting than that, and he's already had 3 films.

Now that Wonder Woman's proved female led superhero movies can work and be extremely profitable, I'd be happy for what you're suggesting.
