CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR: Amazing Concept Art Shows Off Alternate Costume Designs For THE AVENGERS - Part 1

With Avengers: Infinity War looming, we're now taking a look at how different characters like Captain America, Bucky, and War Machine could have looked in this concept art for Captain America: Civil War!

Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released next month and with so much of the movie shrouded in secrecy, fans continue speculating about what could be on the way when Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy assemble to battle Thanos.  We're obviously going to have to wait and see but one of the most intriguing aspects is how it will deal with Captain America: Civil War's fallout.

In that movie, The Avengers were split in two when Captain America and Iron Man fell on very different sides of the Sokovia Accords and the heroes all went their separate ways when all was said and done.

We're now taking a look at some concept art from Captain America: Civil War (which was basically Avengers 3 long before Infinity War) and this first batch
puts the focus on alternate costume designs for Captain America, War Machine, The Winter Soldier, and Black Widow. To check out the full list, all you need to do is click on the buttons below and then share your thoughts in the comments section.

Captain America

The Russos imagined this costume as something Captain America could wear on covert missions with The Avengers. It allows him to blend in while also giving him some authority with that "A" logo.

Another take on the design above, this version makes use of darker colours and bears a striking resemblance to Steve Rogers' Super Soldier suit from the comics and the one in The Winter Soldier.

These takes on Steve's covert suit (which obviously didn't end up being used in the movie) removes the Avengers logo and replaces it with a darker version of the hero's classic star and stripes get up.

Now, we return to the costume Chris Evans did actually end up wearing in Captain America: Civil War. While it's essentially the same design as Avengers: Age of Ultron, some changes have been made.

The Russos decided to remove some of the more colourful aspects of this costume to give Captain America a slightly more serious look which made him more of a soldier than superhero out in the field.

Fans have been hoping for years now that the character's classic chainmail could be incorporated into his costume and here we see that it was briefly considered before the decision was made not to use it.

War Machine

In order to differentiate War Machine from Iron Man in this movie, The Russos decided to bulk up the hero making him look a little more formidable by borrowing design elements from real-life tanks.

War Machine couldn't very well aim his machine gun at his fellow Avengers, hence why he was given a stun baton to do battle with his friends so he could take them out in a non-lethal manner.

Forget what I said about that machine gun because this piece of concept art shows Rhodey taking flight and taking aim at The Avengers in a cool action pose lifted straight out of the comic books.

Bucky/The Winter Soldier

A slightly more casual look for the former Winter Soldier, these alternate designs show how Bucky has had to customise his clothing in order to accommodate the metal arm he was given by HYDRA.

This tactical outfit for the ex-HYDRA agent works really well and makes Bucky look like a real badass. The hint of red at the top of his torn sleeve also works well with the red star he has on his arm!

The fact Bucky is wearing blue here is obviously a throwback to his World War II get up but that wouldn't have really worked in this movie. It is, however, going to be used in Avengers: Infinity War!

When you think about it, it doesn't really make sense for Bucky to walk around with his arm on display (other than it looking cool) so this version arguably works a lot better than the others listed here.

A couple more tactical vests for Bucky, it's interesting to see how much work Marvel put into finding the right look for the character despite him not wearing a classic superhero suit in the movie.

Black Widow

Joss Whedon gave Black Widow her most comic book-y costume to date in Avengers: Age of Ultron and while the Russos briefly considered going down that route again, it didn't ultimately pan out.

Instead, Black Widow was given a more grounded costume which has been carried over into Avengers: Infinity War (albeit with a couple of changes, including the character's iconic red locks).

First! Some of those Winter Soldier concepts look good, but I'm still satisfied with what we got in the film.

I don’t know why I looked at this, I bought the book 2 weeks ago lmfao. I love the alternate War Machine designs, and I think the Black Cap suits should’ve been the Nomad design.

Give Bucky his mask back. Or at least give him some goggles or something.

@WruceBayne - yeah And cut his hair! He's a soldier! Unless he's using the hair style to hide out, there is no reason a combat guy would wear hair in his face. But I guess girls dig it so there that...

I've really liked the all black version a lot better since I picked up the art book a few years ago. its even better than the ripped suit we have in Infinity War. It's much closer to the Nomad look and could have easily had some gold/yellow involved to hint at the comic suit. The chain mail also really reminds me of the Dragon Skin body armor.

Now to see who can custom build an all black suit...

In his last interview it 100% sounded like Evans wants to come back.

Hope Marvel resigns him to another contract :)

Captain America has Super Soldier blood in him even if they kill him he could come back. I hope Cap doesn't die in Infinity War or the next one but has Super Soldier Blood.
