CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR And TFATWS Actor Daniel Brühl Is "Very Confident" Zemo Will Return To The MCU

We haven't seen the scheming Zemo since the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, but actor Daniel Brühl says he's confident that he will get to reprise the role...

Daniel Brühl made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as a reimagined take on Baron Zemo in Captain America: Civil War, before returning for the Disney+ The Falcon and the Winter Soldier series.

Already a somewhat sympathetic villain given everything he went through in Sokovia during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Zemo put his differences with Bucky Barnes and Sam Wilson aside in TFATWS to help them put a stop to the Flag Smashers - though he always had his own schemes in play.

Last we saw of him, he had agreed to return to The Raft to finish out his sentence for killing King T'Chaka in an attempt to frame Barnes for a terrorist attack.

When a Thunderbolts (since retitled Thunderbolts*) movie was announced, it was assumed that Zemo would be involved since he is so closely associated with the supervillain strike team in the comics. Marvel Studios went in a different direction, however, and if there are plans in place for the character in the MCU moving forward, they've yet to be disclosed.

While speaking to Screen Rant about his latest film Becoming Karl Lagerfeld, Brühl was asked about his potential return as Zemo, and while he didn't reveal any specifics, the actor says he is "very confident" that he will be back.

"It's fine for me, I can wait. [Laughs] I'm a very patient man. No, I'm not, but it's funny, because in the meantime, I just wrapped on a show that's called The Franchise, where it's actually a satire about the superhero universe, so it was fun to switch sides, so to say. But knowing Marvel, they have a lot of sense of humor, so they will probably find it as funny as I did. And who knows, I mean, I'm still not dead, I'm very confident that I'll be back."

There's always a chance Zemo will show up in Thunderbolts*, but the addition of that asterisk has many fans convinced that the movie won't actually be based on the Thunderbolts comics at all.

Where do you think Baron Zemo will appear next? Drop us a comment down below.

"Following the events of Avengers: Endgame, Sam Wilson/Falcon (Anthony Mackie) and Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) team up in a global adventure that tests their abilities—and their patience—in Marvel Studios’ “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.” The all-new series is directed by Kari Skogland; Malcolm Spellman is the head writer. Streaming exclusively on Disney+."

If only Marvel would make a Thunderbolts movie…

@BruceWayng - seriously! How did Marvel fall so far. He was the best part of Falcon and Winter Soldier. How can you have a Thunderbolts movie without Baron Zemo?!?!

...yeah really don't see the point. All they could add last time around was the mask. Now what is there? The avengers are gone.

As long as they don't try and redeem him I'm cool with it. Keep him evil. I liked his motives

@UniqNo - He should be behind the poison that took out T'Challa. I'd also be on board with him having something to do with the disruption of Atlantis.

Oh , I’m very confident Zemo will return to the MCU too but it’s just that I wish he was in Thunderbolts (might be when the final product comes out)…

It just seems like a missed opportunity given the makeup of the team & such but oh well , they seem to be going a different direction which I’ll give it a shot.

Anyway , Zemos only been in 2 MCU projects but has quickly become one of my favorite characters in this universe so hope to see him sooner rather then later!!.

I'd be disappointed if he doesn't show up in Thunderbolts. Just makes sense to have the anti-government, anti-super soldier go up against the government-funded team of super soldiers.

@bkmeijer1 - Exactly. They could make this great if they had the right creative team around it. But I have no assumption they do.

Love Daniel Bruhl, he such a polished professional that he raises the level of everything he's in. Marvel PLEASE STOP making second rate adventure movies with B list 'talent'. The MCU used to boast a call sheet full of charisma. Lately that has diminished to a list of one dimensional forgettables. Daniel is incredible at playing the disconnected intellectual. His Zemo was a brilliant but broken man lashing out at the world. He had a great back story, real gravitas and was deliciously twisted.

Bruhl is a fantastic actor. I actually ran into him on the streets of Massachusetts while he was shooting a film a little while back. He confirmed he wasn’t in the Thunderbolts as of now

If I had the power to undo some things in MCU, my Thunderbolts would be a origin story (introducing the Beetle as a goon from the Vultures gang, maybe Songbird too) and the main plot could be Zemo reuniting a whole crew to take the void left by the Avengers (obviously, with some characters in disguise).
My pick to the team: Zemo, Bullseye, Crossbones, Ghost, Beetle, Songbird and Abomination
