CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Concept Art Features Alternate Designs For The Raft And Bucky's Containment Unit

Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released next month and with so much of the movie shrouded in secrecy, fans continue speculating about what could be on the way when Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy assemble to battle Thanos. We're obviously going to have to wait and see but one of the most intriguing aspects is how it will deal with Captain America: Civil War's fallout.
In that movie, The Avengers were split in two when Captain America and Iron Man fell on very different sides of the Sokovia Accords and the heroes all went their separate ways when all was said and done.
Before that could happen, though, some heroes were imprisoned in The Raft and here we're going to take a look at how that superhuman prison was brought to life and the various other ways characters like Bucky and The Falcon were locked up in the movie. Bucky's Containment Unit
Given the Super Soldier serum flowing through his veins, the government had to do a lot to stop Bucky from escaping and here we see the former assassin stuck behind what looks like a laser grid!
In this take on the containment unit, Bucky is trapped behind a pretty nasty looking electricity field which not even his arm would be able to break through (that has also been restrained, however).
This version shows Bucky behind what looks like simple bars and bulletproof glass. Look closely, though, and you may notice that it seems to have been enhanced by some sort of electrical field.
Keeping Bucky Under Control
As you may recall, the government came up with a pretty impressive way to keep Bucky's metal arm under lockdown and here we get a closer look at how the hero was prevented from escaping.
And here, he breaks out! This moment came after Zemo turned the power off and reprogrammed Bucky's mind with more HYDRA commands in order to enact his plan to break The Avengers.
Heroes Behind Bars
Marvel originally planned on putting the captured Avengers in orange but it was decided that it would be too similar to what we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy when that team wound up behind bars.
The Falcon - now clad in blue - has been trapped in one of The Raft's prison units here and it's fair to say that putting the members of Captain America's team in this colour was a smart move visually.
An Alternate Take On The Raft
As you can see, The Raft very nearly took on a totally different look as an underwater prison which would have risen from beneath the sea as a free-standing building similar in concept to a submarine.
It was a smart move by Marvel to have The Raft still located at sea but to cloak it using the same technology as the Helicarrier in order to keep it very much off the books and hidden from the public.
As you can see, this artwork explores the various stages of The Raft being unveiled to welcome someone like Tony Stark when he comes to visit the members of Captain America's team he captured.
Tony Stark Greets His Former Friends
Tony Stark's tense visit to his former friends was one of Captain America: Civil War's best scenes and here we get a look at how that sequence was envisioned by Marvel's team of concept artists.
As you can see, each of the containment cells housing Earth's Mightiest Heroes are actually completely separate and can be lifted in and out of The Raft in order to stop them all escaping beforehand.
