CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Concept Art Shows Comic Accurate Baron Zemo And Alternate Super Soldier Designs

HYDRA's Super Soldiers didn't play a very big role in Captain America: Civil War. but this newly surfaced concept art points to them being woken up in the present and would have looked seriously badass.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to be released next month and with so much of the movie shrouded in secrecy, fans continue speculating about what could be on the way when Earth's Mightiest Heroes and the Guardians of the Galaxy assemble to battle Thanos.  We're obviously going to have to wait and see but one of the most intriguing aspects is how it will deal with Captain America: Civil War's fallout.

In that movie, The Avengers were split in two when Captain America and Iron Man fell on very different sides of the Sokovia Accords and the heroes all went their separate ways when all was said and done.

For a large chunk of Captain America: Civil War, it appeared as if Baron Zemo was planning on using HYDRA's Super Soldiers to wage war on The Avengers but it turns out that he had a far more intricate plan which would bring an end to Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Based on this newly surfaced concept art, it seems those goons were once destined to have a much larger role in the story and they all would have been packing cybernetic enhancements, huge guns, and some seriously weird looking facial scars.

To check out these alternate designs, all you need to do is click on either one of the buttons below.

Ready For A Fight

This trio looks a little like the Colonial Marines in Aliens but their bodies have clearly been enhanced and damaged by whatever the Super Soldier serum - and HYDRA's enhancements - did to them.

Woken Warriors*

This concept art definitely points to the Super Soldiers waking up in the present day, something the movie teased before we learned that Zemo's plan was to kill them rather than make them his slaves.

*Yes, that is a reference to Matt Hardy, wrestling fans!

Baron Zemo

How much cooler would this have been? The Zemo in this movie is very much grounded in reality but this take on the villain brings his comic book look to life in a way which would have worked perfectly.

Superpowered Super Soldiers

Captain America: Civil War makes it clear that the Super Soldiers created by HYDRA have enhanced strength and unhinged minds but here we see that they could have had superpowers as well.

Interestingly, it appears as if their abilities would have been the result of cybernetic enhancements similar to The Winter Soldier's metal arm but a little more advanced and powerful in nature.

Winter Soldier 2.0

This guy appears to be rocking a metal arm of his own and is also sporting some pretty nasty scars across his face. Clearly, taking the Super Soldier serum had some pretty adverse effects on them.

The Super Soldiers

Here, we have a lot of alternate designs for the Super Soldiers and perhaps another indication that Marvel originally planned on having them play a larger role in the movie before plans changed.

This guy may be wielding a massive gun but the smoke rising off him definitely points to an additional power set. Perhaps he would have been able to use electricity the same way as Electro?

This version of the woman seen above is rocking some cybernetic enhancements, presumably because the Super Soldier Serum created by HYDRA didn't do enough to make her like Captain America!

This Super Soldier appears to have cybernetic legs similar to Bucky's arm and that could have made for an interesting plot twist as HYDRA recruited those with disabilities to be their soldiers.

This very human looking Super Soldier has clearly been enhanced but looks a little too human and so this probably wouldn't have been the best look to go for when it comes to these villains.

This Super Soldier has an actual costume of sorts and had the villains played a larger role in proceedings, it definitely would have made sense for them to be rocking stylish outfits such as this one.

HYDRA's Army

These two most closely resemble what ended up on the big screen and while it's something of a generic look for both characters, it's easy to see why Marvel took the Super Soldiers down this route.

Zemo looks great here. They should have gone with this design even if it only appeared in one scene.

The cybernetic soldiers also look great.

Always did like this Zemo design. Here’s hoping that he comes back in a future flick.

I know that Zemo concept art is older, but DAMN is it good. If they bring Zemo back again (and I really hope they do) this would be the perfect look for him.

And a lot of this concept art looks like it may have been from back when they were doing preproduction prior to Cap 3 becoming Civil War.

@MrDandy

Damn...you’re right. This is definitely “what would have been” if they didn’t change Cap 3 to Civil War.

@MrDandy - Yeah probably. Guessing they changed up his motivations too. If it was a reg Cap movie he probably would have been Hydra and seeking revenge on Cap for the past.

But once it was an Avengers movie they changed it to him wanting revenge for his father from what happened in AOU.

Good thing about way it left things off is they could still make this a reality in the future.

Real simple....Zemo escapes, Gets some kind of super soldier serum that messes up his face, He decides to take the heroes down a different way

I've always thought that one of them is the Red Guardian.

I feel they missed an opportunity for a badass fight scene with the Super Soldiers at the end of the movie but instead they were just shot in the head and wasted.

@WruceBayne - The point. You're supposed to think we're in for a generic final battle, instead we get one of the most personal, emotional endings we've gotten.

@Nebula - even though I did wanna see them in action I thoroughly enjoyed that final battle.

It's hands down the most emotionally invested I've been in a movie. I knew no one would die but in my head I was screaming "stop fighting!"

@Nebula - I get what your saying and that was a riveting, emotional battle between the three. But that still could’ve been achieved without the use of the Super Soldiers.

@WruceBayne - then there's no subversion.

Damn, man! What a bummer we didn’t get that Zemo.
That would have looked great on screen. Very cool design and good update to the character.

So scanning images from an art book that has been available for a year is all it takes to be an editor now?
