Guys, watched the movie yesterday, the 1st midnight session. Here are my thoughts:
DON'T WORRY, I WON'T SPOIL ANYTHING!
I really enjoyed the movie. It's hands down one of Marvel Studios' best.
With a great story, well-defined conflicts, really fleshed-out characters (Vision / Scarlet Witch are great) it should amass a huge load of money, keeping the long-term plans for Marvel/Disney.
Spider-Man is something else. Really, now I can understand why people's been saying he's the best Peter Parker / Spider-Man ever. Being a longtime Spider-Man reader, I really loved what they did with the character. The interaction with the heroes is great, he fits like a glove - The Star Wars reference is gold. The fact he's a joker in the battles is hilariously brought up. There's nothing "dark" about him, as he shouldn't have anyway. Peter Parker is a really likable kid, not the so-called "hipster a-hole" portrayed in the Amazing series (sorry Garfield fans). He's more as an old-fashioned nerd - perhaps older folks like me will get identified there :)
Black Panther. Holy sh*t, where to start? He fights like a beast, moves like a feline, is like a unstoppable force of nature and above all, T'challa is fleshed-out as a future protagonist. Simply as that. I can't wait for his movie, you will also want to see more of Wakanda. Also a highlight.
The plot is well explained, and you'll notice everyone has a good reason to do what they do. It's really hard to have "sides" here cause it's really easy to understand Caps, Tony and other characters' motivations.
Action scenes are fast - sometimes even too fast for my tastes at the beginning, as if they were fast forwarding everything. Maybe I'm old. The choreograpy and stunts are really good, tho. Fights are very brutal.
BTW the movie is kinda violent. There are people being shot in the head and punched in the face to death. I don't remember a Marvel Studios movie being that graphical. But it's as graphical as an older Indiana Jones movie, perhaps younger audiences aren't used to it.
The battles: The airport scene is where it's at. believe or not it's not the movie climax. But the display of powers there is just insane. There is a moment where Tony kinda says what we're all thinking, something like "holy sh*t there are so much new stuff here!"
Zemo is less than he appears. Then he's more than he appears. Makes you wonder what the hell is into that guy's head.
Everett Ross is also more than he appears.
This movie is really about Caps and his friendship with Bucky. But deals with the consequences of what the latter has done and how the strenght of this friendship will change the lives of many.
I can see lots of people calling this "Avengers 2.5". I understand their point cause there's a direct hit on the team. But there's no way to deny the Avengers movies aren't that personal. The plot here lies on the actions and fate of a group of people, not on a crazy supervillain trying to destroy or rule everything...
...or at least it doesn't look that way ;)
I give it 5/5 - really hard to see problems in it.
