CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Star Anthony Mackie On Why Sam Wilson Is Unlikely To Lead THE AVENGERS

Despite the fact Steve Rogers led Earth's Mightiest Heroes into battle, Anthony Mackie isn't quite so sure Sam Wilson will do the same despite him wielding the shield as Captain America. Check it out...

In Avengers: Endgame's closing moments, the elderly Steve Rogers (who had spent decades in the past after getting his happy ending with Peggy Carter) gave his shield, and the Captain America mantle, to Sam Wilson.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier showed the hero struggling with that burden, though he'd later realise he was the right person to pick up where Steve left off. We only got a glimpse of what that will look like during the finale, but Captain America: New World Order is going to fully put the spotlight on the MCU's newest Star Spangled Avenger.

Sam is expected to clash with The Leader and President Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford), but Anthony Mackie doesn't see his Cap eventually assembling and taking charge of The Avengers.

"Sam is the only character without superpowers," Mackie tells Empire (via CBR). "He's just a regular dude hanging out with a bunch of weirdos. Being from New Orleans, I've been in a few fights. And heart and charisma never helped me in a fight. That usually just got me beat up."

"So that might cause an issue when you go fight somebody like Thanos," he concluded.

Mackie's right that Sam has no powers, and we can't help but wonder whether Captain America: New World Order will change that.

Even if it doesn't, the former Falcon is arguably still a more than capable leader, though we can't help but think Kang would make short work of the hero. Throw in rumours that Spider-Man will be Avengers: The Kang Dynasty's lead, and it could be the web-slinger who assembles a team to battle the time-traveller's Variants.

As for the MCU's new Captain America, we're pretty sure he'll be key to the Multiverse Saga as it's impossible to imagine him not factoring into both The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in some capacity.

Captain America: New World Order is set to be released in theaters on May 3, 2024.

Hard disagree. That may be why he's the best possible candidate.

Batman is often the tactical leader of the Justice League because he has to stay back and monitor while taking care of his own set of goals for the mission.

Sam would be better at leading than Steve arguably because he has the tactical advantage of air surveillance, and his training in combat and experience with the Avengers.... honestly there is nobody better than Sam to lead this new team.

But honestly, it's very in character of Anthony for Sam not to see all of that in himself until someone points out how ideal Sam really is to lead.

@TheVandalore - Yeah.....this is a dumb answer by Mackie. Iron Man didn't have powers either. He had a badass suit of armor.

Falcon-Cap doesn't have powers either but he has wings, he can fly as fast as airplanes, he has a drone that comes out of his wings with missiles and machine guns, and he has Captain America's shield.

He's hardly just a dude.

@CorndogBurglar - totally.

Sam is actually really growing on me as a character as the new Captain America for a number of reasons. The black man as Cap elements are profound when explored well like the Isaiah scenes. But for me I'm really also enjoying the idea of him being leader of this new team of Avengers as a spin on Superman and Batmans leadership. Sam can be both tactical leader from back like Batman while also being the moral leader of the team like Superman. Sam can do both for this new team of Avengers and that's actually really dope and unique for his character, that sets him apart from how Steve led as Cap. Steve was always leading the charge while making calls, but Sam will lead differently, more like if Superman had to stay back and take over Batmans tactical command role. It's cool and unique to Sam's leadership and something I'm looking forward to seeing in the future.

So I hope they do make Sam the leader.

Steve lead from the ground leading the charge, while Sam has to lead from they sky and use his tactics and experience to lead, and I REALLY want that explored.

@TheVandalore - Makes sense because in Civil War we see him making smart tactical choices and in his own show we see his moral viewpoints shine.

@TheVandalore - Damn, you just gave me more hope for the character than the actor playing him. Take notes Mackie. Take notes.

At this point, there is no leader. That was Tony and Steve's job. Now they're simply a team and that's fine

@bobevanz - Do they even really have a team?

They’ll never let a black man lead the Avengers.

I do hope he and Captain Marvel becomes the Avengers' next leaders. I wanna see the Captains butt heads over how to tackle the Kang-problem.
