CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Star Anthony Mackie Reveals The Chris Evans Scene He Wants To Top As Cap

Captain America: New World Order star Anthony Mackie has said he hopes to have a scene in the MCU that rivals Captain America: The Winter Soldier's elevator fight, while also sharing an update on the film.

Following the events of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, Sam Wilson is the MCU's new Captain America. We've already seen him embark on one mission, but it will be Captain America: New World Order that sees the former Falcon finally take centre stage.

Anthony Mackie made his MCU debut in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and during a recent red carpet interview with E! News, he revealed that there's one specific scene in the 2014 blockbuster he hopes to top as the new Cap.

Confirming that "[we're] in pre-production, we're getting it all together to start shooting next year," Mackie added, "I want a fight scene that rivals Chris Evans' fight scene in the elevator [in 2014's Captain America: The Winter Solider] when he fought like 10 dudes in the elevator. That was a badass scene."

"The first time I saw that, I was like, ‘That's crazy,'" he continued. "So I just want a fight scene that rivals that."

During this conversation, Mackie was also asked if we've seen the last of Evans as Steve Rogers in the MCU. We still don't know what became of the former Captain America following the events of Avengers: Endgame, and the actor doubled down on past claims that Evans is done with the role.

"Chris is so far gone from Marvel," Mackie joked. "Like, Marvel is not even in his radius. He's so far gone. He's enjoying life. He's like an old retired dude."

Despite that, the Captain America: New World Order star remains firm friends with Evans and Bucky actor Sebastian Stan. "It's not often you come across people you work with who you sincerely miss and consider friends. Fortunately, between the three of us, we're actually friends. We go to each other's houses and spend birthdays together."

It's cool to hear that they've remained friends, but a shame all signs are pointing to Evans not returning as Captain America. The character's fate will need to be addressed at some point unless we're supposed to believe Steve just died off camera, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for Marvel Studios right now.

Captain America: New World Order arrives in theaters on May 3, 2024.

Wait is he not aware he isn't a super soldier???

@McMurdo - Actors don't have to be smart

@McMurdo - we saw Hawkeye take out the entire yakuza single hand with a sword I think they can figure out a way to have a guy with wings and an indestructible shield do the same

@McMurdo - he's not a super soldier, but he still has a lot of tech in his suit he can utilize.

You may not top the elevator scene, but you can still have a badass and creative fight.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - fighting skills wise Sam isn't anywhere near Clint.

@thewanderer - "you may not top the elevator scene" so what's your point? You are aware he's specifically talking about getting a scene to rival that, right?
ShimmyShimmyYA
ShimmyShimmyYA - 9/26/2022, 7:55 AM
@Origame - and we know that from where? Also they literally time skipped into Steve knowing how to fight on that level in WS

@Origame - you're constant ability to be a whiny brat impresses me.

No movie is ever going to be as good as "XX" movie, so why bother continuing to make movies, right?

They can still make a great scene with him, even if it doesn't top the elevator scene.

@ShimmyShimmyYA - ...from watching the movies. Clint has been shown to be basically batman with a bow.

Also, much of his fighting ability has been based on his incredible athletic superpowers. Namely what he did in the elevator fight.

@thewanderer - ...but again, he's talking about rivaling that scene.

@Origame - and like I said where does it say Clint is a fighter miles better than Sam that he couldn’t get to that level?

To the ability part Sam has a jet pack/wings and a vibranium shield it’s entirely possible to come up with a great fight scene using those abilities

Brilliant scene. Makes you yearn for the Marvel glory days again.

@MarvelousMarty - I still think 2014 is peak MCU. It’s going to be tough to top the year that saw Winter Soldier and GOTG get released.

@MarvelousMarty - The 2014 to 2019 run of Winter Soldier, GotG, Age of Ultron (yes, I said it), Ant-Man, Civil War, Doctor Strange, GotG 2, Homecoming, Ragnarok, Black Panther, Infinity War, Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Endgame, Far From Home was really quite incredible.

I don't know that it can ever be topped, but I'm sure they'll try and I also appreciate that Phse 4 has been more experimental.

@thewanderer - It was incredible, so pleased I got to see it play out on the big screen. I really don't think it will ever be matched and yes, Phase 4 has been experimental but is has also been a huge drop in the overall quality in almost every department (for me).

@MarvelousMarty - I think Phase 4 have been more focused in genre and tone and some are going to like it, some won't. Part of that experimental aspect.

In Phases 1-3 they made great stuff but also played it a bit safe. They're taking more risks in Phase 4 which is why you see wider discrepancies among fans of what's liked and what's not liked.

And I'm ok with that. 1) because I'm liking Phase 4 quite a bit, and 2) because I think we're going to see the payoff of that experimentation in Phases 5 and 6.

marvel72 - 9/26/2022, 9:43 AM
@MarvelousMarty - it certainly does, I don't think we'll ever see another Winter Soldier.

They're too focused on ruining great heroes, making men look bad at everything and you can't make a serious movie anymore.
MarvelousMarty
MarvelousMarty - 9/26/2022, 9:55 AM
@marvel72 - Yeah, the comedy element has become too much for me. The movies are out and out comedies now. Must be what most people want but not me. The Winter Solider was such a great thriller with scattered funny lines that really landed. I watched Thor L&T a couple of weeks ago and was absolutely sick of it by the end! It's just not for me anymore but I am an old git now so it probably shouldn't be.

@MarvelousMarty - I got comedy marvel is out to be more comedy after watching Thor three ., surprise I like Thor love and thunder it wasn’t greatest sequel for him at least it wasn’t all comedy start to finding unlike Thor three had I didn’t like ending to Thor love and thunder especially end fight scene battle

@thewanderer - You take out AOU, DS, Ragnarok, Antman&Wasp, Captain Marvel, Endgame and Far From Home, I might agree.

@dagenspear - I think I'll leave them in, lol.
thewanderer
thewanderer - 9/26/2022, 2:48 PM
@dragon316 - I don't think they are strictly trying to be more comedic across the board, I think they are just keeping their balance.

Thor was an action comedy, MoM was a horror comedy, Eternals was meant to be an epic, No Way Home wasn't that comedic, She-Hulk is a sitcom, Wakanda Forever will almost be like a drama, Secret Invaasion a paranoid thriller, New World Order a spy thriller. Ms Marvel a coming of age story. Moon Night dove into mental issues. Eternals was meant to be an epic that spanned centuries. Black Widow was made like a Bourne movie.

No disrespect.

But there is nothing that FalconAmerica can do that will surpass the hype that Steve had.
Even the announcement of his own movie didnt spark any hype among the general audience.

Im afraid this movie wont do as good as Marvel hopes.
