CAPTAIN AMERICA: NEW WORLD ORDER Star Harrison Ford Reveals Simple Reason He Decided To Join The MCU

Star Wars and Indiana Jones icon Harrison Ford finally joins the MCU in 2024's Captain America: New World Order, and the legendary actor has now shed some light on what led to him joining the franchise.

William Hurt first played General "Thunderbolt" Ross way back in 2008 in The Incredible Hulk and continued to make sporadic appearances right through to 2021's Black Widow. Unfortunately, the actor passed away last year, though we'd anticipated him retiring from the MCU for a while, especially with his health sadly on the decline.

Last summer, Marvel Studios shocked the world when it was revealed that Harrison Ford has joined the franchise as the new General Ross, starting with 2024's Captain America: New World Order

No official announcement was made at D23 for fear of overshadowing Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the legendary Star Wars actor finally shed some light on why, at 80, he's chosen now to star in a comic book movie.

"I don’t know. I can’t explain myself to myself, I just work here," he joked before getting a little more serious. "I thought, 'Everybody else seems to be having a great time.' I watch all these terrific actors having a good time [in Marvel movies]."

"I like doing something different to what I’ve ever done and pleasing people with it. So I’ll try a piece of that."

That's as good a reason as any, and there's definitely plenty of excitement and joy surrounding Ford's decision to play Ross. As much as well miss Hurt, the former Han Solo joining the MCU feels like a dream come true...especially if rumours his character will transform into Red Hulk are correct.

Fans have been waiting a long time to see that villain on screen, and while we don't necessarily anticipate Ford sticking around for multiple appearances, it would be a shame if Marvel Studios hasn't at least tried to sign him up for one of the upcoming Avengers movies.

Captain America: New World Order is set to be released on May 3, 2024.

I kinda expected the answer to be ''money''. If anyone is gonna say it, I kinda expect it would be Harrison Ford. This answer also tracks though

@bkmeijer1 - I also fully expected to click on this link and have him say "the money" because it is totally something he would say, especially at this stage of his career. And I wouldve loved it lol

@bkmeijer1 - at that age, I think money stops being the driving force. Plus the guy is in Star Ward and Indiana Jones. He already has money.

@EgoEgor - that's definitely true. He just seems so disinterested at times, but maybe that's also because he knows he can do whatever now and not worry.

Gonna be such a different experience.

@Spawnnn - I remember someone spoiling that moment on reddit with a Saber through a red solo cup. That was the day I learned to avoid spoilers haha

@Spawnnn - I think the distinction is the "having fun" part. He's made it no secret he lost his love of the character and it's fan base so many times. He tried to have him Killed off just he wouldn't have to do it anymore.

@bobevanz - After being good about avoiding spoilers for years, this scene was ruined for me 10 minutes before the movie started, by some d**khead who had seen the movie the night before.

If eyes were daggers…

@SATW42 - and to add to that, Hurt is an antagonist, rather than the hero Ford usually plays. It'll be a different experience based on that alone.

@RedFury - Ross*

"William Hurt first played General "Thunderbolt" Ross way back in 2008..." No actually you are wrong. Sam Elliot was the first actor to play Ross in Ang Lee's Hulk film, and truth be told I liked his version way more than Hurt's.

@Mugens - I think it's pretty clear that he meant "in the MCU"

@Mugens - he’s saying he first played the character in 2008. But yeah Sam Elliot was way more impactful as a general.

@FinnishDude - Wasn't clear to me which is why I wrote what I did. And rereading it doesn't change my mind. Yeah us comic-addicted folks know but not how I read it.

@Mugens - You literally read it wrong. It says HURT first played Ross in 2008. That's literally what it says. You quoted it. You read it wrong, thats not the fault of the author.

Facepalming at everyone here saying "money". That's not how successful people operate. Money is a factor, not a motive. You assess the opportunity and decide if it's something you want for your career. If it is, THEN you have conversations about earnings.

As old and filthy rich as he is, I don’t think he’d do a film just for money. I can buy that he just wanted to do something fun.

Some of the older generation actors have stated that they are working on super hero movies because their kids and/or grandchildren have talked them into it.

Everyone is saying money. And while I don’t necessarily disagree, the guy is 80 and has been in a ton of successful movies. I just did some quick google research and his net worth is allegedly 300 million dollars. I think he just one of those people that has to work. More power to him if that makes him happy.

I’m not expecting much, but how awesome would it be if Ford became associated with yet another franchise character in the minds of young moviegoers, this late in his career?

"I just work here," is such a Harrison Ford line. Haha
