Thanks to SHH we have another look at one of the behind the scenes featurettes from Captain America: The First Avenger. In this clip we are treated to the process of how they came up with the practical look of Red Skull, including that they even used CGI over the prosthetic that was used on Hugo Weaving.

Captain America: The First Avenger focuses on the early days of the Marvel Universe when Steve Rogers volunteers to participate in an experimental program that turns him into the Super Soldier known as Captain America. As Captain America, Rogers joins forces with Bucky Barnes and Peggy Carter to wage war on the evil HYDRA organization, led by the villainous Red Skull.

Captain America: The First Avenger will be made available for home release on October 25, 2011.

I was on-set on that Red Skull's office/lab set at Shepperton Studios in England!- it was bloody fantastic!, the production designers did a great job!.
So many great little details that never even made it into the film!.

Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull is the best villain for 2011

@Nomis - Thank god they didn't put real wings on caps' helmet, imo.

Agreed about GL mask and Thor's helmet, tho. Hope if they make something like a Asgardian war movie in Thor 2 he'll use his helmet more often.

About wolverine... I don't know if the exact cowl would be cool onscreen, but they could give it a try. After all X-Men was the first in this "new" superhero trend (yeah, i'm ignoring Blade here), and I can understand that at the time they were afraid of going literally on it. But it's been almost 12 years now, things have changed.

I'd literally have an orgasm if at the end of The Wolverine (god i hope it's good) he appears at a roof in Madripoor in full costume (even if it's the black/grey one, though the brown is my favorite). That would kick major ass.

JonathanisMagnum1985 - about the X-men uniforms I partially agree. The thing here is that in the presented movie timeline none of the x-men were heroes before joining the group.

If wolverine, for example, was already some kind of ninja assassin / soldier before joining the x-men we would have a reason to put him in a uniform (of course, an adapted one, maybe with the cowl to mask his identity, pretty much like in batman begins). The "ears" could be easily explained for the fact people always treated Logan as an animal, the wolverine, stuff like that (and if xmo:wolverine was done right, he would act like one, getting nuts in the snow for a couple years after the x-weapon program).

And so on, if we start thinking how each character has different stories, with a little adaptation we could imagine how their uniforms could be different from each other (maybe the original x-men could have the same ones, tho).

Also... this makes me think what would happen if marvel studios had the rights to x-men....

I would love to see Hugh Jackman in the brown and orange wolverine suit, it is by far the best. The brown and orange looks more practical than the yellow and blue anyways, therefore it should transfer on screen better.

I think with first class they proved that source material costumes can transfer with tweaks that make sense.

And as for mask go, i totally agree with Nomis, the masks need to stay on, they are super heroes for God's sake! what happened to the whole "if my identity is public then my life and everyone i know and love is in danger"? I want to see Cyclops and Gambit on screen with the masks which cover part of the face and still show hair.

I think part of the reason the directors have the hero take off the mask is to get the feeling that it really is the actor under the mask and not always a stunt double. Otherwise, you run into the Power Rangers/Darth Vader thing where the voice actor dubbing is not the person under the suit. And especially since with heroes like spiderman are usually cgi, you want to maintain the consistency that it is still the same actor under the mask. Think of Batman for example, it can get tough to tell who is under the mask whether it is Bale or a stunt double during action sequences as we only see the man's mouth.

so it only means one thing, to make things right, reboot x-men, reboot wolverine, reboot everything, give the rights back to marvel studios, they are the only ones they can interpret the heroes they created.
