Earlier today we saw the first official image of Red Skull, courtesy of EW. But they also mentioned some mild spoilers from the movie. Which was spotted by IGN here's what the article said:

"In its accompanying story (mild spoilers), EW mentions that a Nazi experiment similar to Captain America's super-solider program "turned their test subject -- the weapons developer Johann Schmidt (Hugo Weaving) -- into the ghastly Red Skull. … The premise of the movie, out July 22, is that the serum only brings out the subject's inner strength. Good guys, like [Cap], remain good guys -- only much tougher. Bad guys, like Schmidt, turn into living horrors."

Exiles- Honestly not suprised by the first bit and it makes sense but I have to say the info about the super soldier serum is pretty interesting, I think this is a pretty original idea, correct me if I am wrong though. first article so go easy on me and what do you guys think good or bad?

I'm not sure I like the fact that the serum brings out his inner goodness. It makes it sound like Cap's goodness is a side-effect of the serum and not his natural trait.

if he didn't have the "goodness" in him already then he would turn out like red skull it just enhances it like every thing else thats really it. So its not really an side effect of the serum.

But still, this makes it so that serum is the reason why Cap is the pinnacle of goodness, instead of it just being a natural trait for him. Why not just have the serum make him stronger and that's it?

@indo oh god dude red skull ended up like that coz he was a rotten bastard inside, it enhances whats with in you and makes it stronger so steve rogers is the pinnacle of goodness, its with in HIM. not part of the serum, this makes him more special because you need the right person or they'll just end up like red skull. You don't seem to understand that bit. Hence the reason why steve gets that pep talk from Erskine about being himself.

Very good first article, and i like the way they are attacking how the redskull gets to be the redskull. I understand why they have him not in a nazi uniform, because Marvel/Disney doesn't want to offend the Jewish audience and they might think if its about nazi's then they wont come.

OOOOOOOOOHHH. I get it now. Haha I must not have read that clearly. So the reason the Red Skull is hideously disfigured is because he's ugly on the inside, while Steve Rogers becomes incredibly buff because he's the ultimate good guy? That sounds pretty clever.

That is so damn stupid. The serum MAGICALLY makes good guys stronger and makes bad guys monsters. And to complete the failure, I'm sure Red Skull will be strong from the serum which contradicts the stupid magic serum thing they're doing. By this dumb logic, Red Skull should shrivel up into a weakling for being evil.

Is the serum designed to bring out the subjects inner self, or is that just a coincidence? Also, the Germans and the Americans have the exact same serum? And they both target the inner self? Hope it makes sense on film.

Interesting take, although how the heck does a chemical know what's inside your heart: good vs. evil? Kind of bullshit. Why can't it be as simple as this: the Nazi's totally F'd up Johann Schmidt with a hack job on the transformation and ended up with Darth Vader ... meanwhile, the Americans got it right with a virtuous Luke Skywalker-type that they turned into an Adonis that keeps his heart of gold?

CapWriter Because that would make too much sense. It just can't be Vader and Luke with two different personalities faced with their own outcomes of the serum. They have to throw [frick]in midicholreans in it. If I was an asshole, got injected with Super Soldier Serum and had a change of heart, would the magical serum say hey, he just saved a kitten. Let's turn him into a powerful kitten-saving hero? Straight bullshit. The positive feedback for this plot element leads me to believe that ANYTHING can be added and it will be liked. But this is pretty damn stupid. Makes me think about what larger elements are going to be retardedized.

Not only is this a bad idea, it is in no way original. That was the premise of the "formula" developed by Alec Holland in the first "Swamp Thing" movie, from the early '80s. Holland became a badass, a large mercenary became a dwarfish clown, and the bad guy became a horror (based on "what they were inside"). I can understand that some things from the comics don't translate well to film, but why try to fix it when it is not broken?

Steve Rogers' innate goodness kept him from being corrupted by the benefits that the serum gave him. I swear, it's like some writers and directors think: "We've been receiving too many positive responses to our film. We have to find a way to piss off the fans of the source material." More than likely, someone wanted to put their own "contribution" in to the mythos. My only question is; did they shake once or twice when they were done pissing on this part of the concept?

Yeah, lp4, but technically, Warner Bros doesn't even make CBM's. There a film company like any other film company that has had some CBM titles.

whatever the equation? The wb just plain sucks when it comes to having anything to do with cbms....and I'm talking about CBM's like Supes and Bats, not Road to Perdition or A History of Violence. Which, btw were done by Fox, who also sucks at cbm's.....
