SAVING PRIVATE BUCKY???

After seeing the HD Wolverine: Origin trailer, I started to worry about the impact this would have for future franchises focusing on the same area, namely Captain America.

In the trailer we get a sneak peak at Jim's journey through the various wars that mankind have engaged in. Being that this will be a PG-13 film, it goes without saying that the war scenes will be "neutered". This is where my concern reared up and slapped me in the face.

The highly anticipated Captain America film due for release in 2011, has had a lot of controversy surrounding it already, whether it be the CRAP cameo promised to us by the liar Louis Leterrier of Incredible Hulk fame or the PLAGUE of arguments surrounding who should be wearing the red, white & blue. But what has come to my attention has not been the little issues (no matter how strongly you feel about those previous two), but something that will affect the entire movie as a whole.

The film is to be set nearly entirely during WW2. The thought that has entertained my imagination so consistently was the idea that the Captain America movie would be on par with the likes of Saving Private Ryan in terms of being a war epic. But then it hit me, depending on how war is portrayed in the Wolverine movie and if MARVEL are staying true to their word and not screwing with the franchise, will it show the harsh realities of war and convey the message of why it was fought? Or will it be dumbed down to the level of Indiana Jones complete with sugar coated frosting?

I can’t answer this, I wish I could. On one hand it could be the best MARVEL franchise ever put to the big screen, on the other a disappointment worthy for the history books.

Cheers, James

I think the movie should be war/fantasy related like Hellboy's opening. If you make it too "Private Ryan" realistic, it won't link adequately to the avengers.

Captain America can't be part of the war as we know it but more of a fighter of the Nazis' super soldiers and biggest villains. Rather than fighting at Normandy or the Battle of the Bulge, he'll fight the Red Skull and guys like that.

i think they are thinking to hard about it will have to have some war seens in it but i don't think it will be anything that can be reconized in history.

Personally, I don't want it to be "on par" with Saving Private Ryan. SPR was a historical drama, it needed the hyper-realistic, drawn out war sequences... which just wouldn't fit in a Captain America movie, for fear of making a mockery of war and the (real) people who have fought and died in it. Obviously it needs a little historical realism, but I don't want to see Cap going after Hitler... I want to see him going after Red Skull.

I want Hitler to be ridiculed as a mere pawn in Red Skull's scenario.

Red, White and Blue. They don't have to be tights. They can be WWII fatigues with armor that have been dyed for "patriotic inspiration".
I see one F***ING hint of black leather, I'm walking the hell out of the theater and getting my money back!

Realism is the way i'd like it to go, the Hellboy opening was pretty cool. But yes, I totally see where you guys are coming from, fantasy yes, but that doesnt mean that it cant exist in reality also.
Thanks for the comments!

how the hell wont a realistic war movie link with the avengers
have you seen Iron Man? It was incredibly realistic in all aspects except for the man in an iron suit
it NEEDS to be a war epic similar to saving private ryan, just like in the old comic he wears the old style uniform so should he in the movie, until he is unfrozen in avengers. i have seen nothing so far in the marvel movies that would cause him to not be a part of a normal war effort, just like Wolverin will be
i hope there is NO fantasy element like Hellboy (which is one of my favorite movies) because it is a much different reality and character. he is a war hero who inspires the masses, he was not seen as a 'super' hero until after the avengers were formed.

also, please god no Bucky.

I think Cap should have the original outfit, they can skip the pointy shield, for simplicity, just go with the round one from the start.

After much thought, I think there SHOULD be a Bucky. Where Cap should be more in the original mold, Bucky should be more along the lines seen in the Ultimates. Late teens scrounger/hustler type.

There should be a Bucky, and Bucky should die at the end of the movie(and never come back).

Fantasy war would kill the movie, Avengers and any related to it. It has to be realistic or it would be just lame. I dont think it would be cool if he that lame original outfit or whatever your calling it. The classic is only way to go! It was/is what he had in the original. It was a war comic not a superhero comic so it should stay a War movie not Fantasy! He was not a superhero he was a Super-Soldier. He was Super-Soldier that became a super hero later just as it should be in the movie.

I think they will pull it off. I'm pretty sure they'll have cap integrated in some of the battle scenes but it will mostly focus around the Red Skull and cap's fate at the end of the first movie. I'm sure they'll have a scene where soldiers are pinned down and cap shows up for the first time and saves the troops. Hopefully they will have cameos of the original Human Torch and Namor. And you can't have a WWII story without Bucky. As much as people don't want it, he has to be there. It's marvel history. And if they make changes to the costume, at least use the costume from the WWII ultimate line.

The Cap movie needs to be gritty and epic, but not as much as Saving Private Ryan. Also I say keep Bucky but drop the campy sidekick lines... Go for a slightly older Bucky Barnes on his way to becoming Winter Soldier... now THAT would be a great supporting character

P.S. Bucky Cap is hella cool (there I said it)

Bucky is a lot cooler now than he was at that time. Then he was like the campy version of the 60's Batman TV show. Now he's a badarse.
