On Monday, Marvel released news that production of Captain Marvel is underway and gave fans something big to get excited about. Some major characters will be making their big screen return since their memorable, onscreen deaths. Clark Gregg, Djimon Hounsou, and Lee Pace will be returning as Phil Coulson, Korath the Pursuer, and Ronan the Accuser, respectively. If you keep up with Marvel television you know Coulson returned to SHIELD after a magical visit to Tahiti but hasn't been seen in an MCU movie since his role in Avengers and Korath and Ronan both perished in Guardians of the Galaxy. Since Captain Marvel is set in the 90's, Marvel has the opportunity to give us another look at these fan-favorites.

With the presence of the Skrulls already confirmed, we may get the chance to see a different look for our returning character, besides just looking a decade or so younger. Could it be that one of the shapeshifting aliens took the place of someone we've already met? When comparing these live-action interpretations to their comic origins, there's one that's significantly different. In the comics Ronan is more anti-hero than a villain, so fans were surprised to see his evil plans of annihilation in the movie. This deviation from the source material could be explained by him being killed or abducted by the Skrulls during the events of Captain Marvel, and it is revealed that who we saw in Guardians of the Galaxy was the Skrull imposter of Ronan.

Do you think Ronan will be a casualty of the Skrulls, or maybe a different character? Let us know what you think in the comments. And let's see if we get any answers when Avengers: Infinity Wars premieres on April 27th, 2018, or if we'll have to wait for Caption Marvel's release on March 6th, 2019.

He's not a good villain by any means but; As he is (avenging past generations of his people) is better than him being a Skrull.

Having Ronan be revealed as a Skrull would add nothing to the MCU as he's already a dead and forgotten character.

Coulson's story is complicated enough with him receiving alien blood back in the first season of Agent's of SHIELD and Marvel don't seem to want to bring him back into the film universes so him being revealed as a Skrull also wouldn't add anything.

The characters I'd like to see be revealed as Skrulls are;

- General 'Thunderbolt' Ross
- James 'Rhodey' Rhodes
- Happy Hoggan (A Skrull defector who's found peace among the humans and wishes to remain as one)
- Sharon Carter
- Erik Selvig

I think Ronan and Korath both will be commanders or such in the Kree army. Both will be minor characters

I don't think any of the three recent castings provide any indication as to characters being Skrulls.

Ronan's inclusion already makes sense on its own by potentially providing the set-up for his character's antagonism towards the Nova Corp in GotG. Overcomplicating that by trying to explain that one alien was actually a different type of alien isn't really going to add much additional depth for the casual viewer or hardcore fan.

Ditto Korath. No-one would care one bit if he was actually revealed to be a different race of alien.

Coulson has a lot of interesting potential in terms of bringing his Agents of SHIELD story full-circle to a close, given how intertwined with the Kree his resurrection and adventures with Inhumans were, however given that they have squandered numerous past opportunities to do something that clever with the AoS-MCU crossovers, i doubt he will be anything much more than a fun cameo to help the casual movie fan place the timeline.

Overall i would agree with @TheGoddamnPeel in that the most likely characters to be a Skrull would be someone like Rhodey or Sharon Carter - someone big enough that the audience will actually give a damn about the reveal, but not too big that it would betray 10 years of MCU continuity and fandom.
