NOVA: Glenn Close And John C. Reilly Rumored To Reprise GOTG Roles For Disney+ Series

A new rumor is claiming that both John C. Reilly and Glenn Close are set to reprise their respective Guardians of the Galaxy roles for the upcoming Nova series...

The Nova Corps were first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy, and a new rumor is claiming that two of the most prominent members of the intergalactic peacekeeping force are set to return for the upcoming Nova Disney+ series.

According to MTTSH, both Glenn Close and John C. Reilly will reprise their respective roles as Nova Prime Rael and Rhomann Dey.

These characters - along with the rest of the Corps - were believed to have been destroyed by Thanos shortly before the events of Avengers: Infinity War, but it only makes sense that some of them would have survived the attack. Then again, there's always a chance that they'll only appear in flashbacks.

We first got confirmation that Marvel Studios was planning to introduce Nova to the Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2022, and since then, there have been conflicting reports about which medium the project was being developed for.

Marvel Studios Head of Streaming, Television and Animation, Brad Winderbaum, recently confirmed that Nova is indeed heading to the small screen, and shared some intriguing updates on the studio's plans for the space-faring hero... or should that be heroes?

While speaking to the Phase Zero podcast, Winderbaum describes the Nova series as an "amazing ensemble piece with a great cast of characters" possibly indicating that both Richard Rider and Sam Alexander will feature. He also says that the show will have "shades of" both Star Trek and Battlestar Galactica.

Here's what Feige had to say about Nova's MCU introduction back in 2021.

"Timing is relative, right?" said the Marvel Studios boss. "I think I'd been talking about Doctor Strange eight years before that movie came out. So, 'immediate potential' is relative. But clearly, we are not shying away from the cosmic end of storytelling right in the sweet spot of the Nova Corps and Nova himself."

Sam Alexander first appeared in the Marvel Point One one-shot in back in November 2011 before going on to lead his own series beginning in February 2013. The Arizona teen inherited the Nova helmet from his missing father, and officially took up the mantle after being trained by Guardians of the Galaxy members Gamora and Rocket Raccoon.

Previous rumors have claimed that Ryan Gosling (Barbie, Blade Runner 2049) might be up for the lead role in Nova (he is believed to have had discussions with Feige about potentially boarding the MCU, but a Disney+ series might be a stretch), and we've also heard that a "young lead" is being sought. If accurate, this would further suggest that both Rider and Alexander will appear.

What do you make of this latest rumor? Are you glad that Nova is going to be a Disney+ series, or would you prefer to see the character take flight on the big screen? Let us know in the comments section down below.

@WakandaTech - When is S2 coming out? It feels like an eternity since him and the English woman were in Egypt trying to figure out how to get back to the USA.

@fanboy03191 - I searched and the only news is that S2 of 1923 has been green-lighted, but no word whether it will be released in 2025. Sounds more like a 2026 release. hopefully Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren are still alive and healthy to work.

Hoping the casting for Richard rider goes more smoothly than Hal Jordan.

@MCUKnight11 - I wonder how they will differ this from Lanterns since this also seems to have the older mentor-younger rookie dynamic (though I could be wrong)

Interested to see who they get ,my pick has been Gosling but I doubt he does a show.

@TheVisionary25 - I do believe Disney will invest enough to actually have it be in space instead of heartland America. Still hoping for Gosling but other alternatives I have are Glen Powell and Dylan O Brien.

@MCUKnight11 - I don’t mind the Heartland America thing (there have been stories where GLS have just been on Earth) since if the show is successful , they can put even more money behind it for future season s thus developing the cosmic corner of the DCU

Coming to Nova though , those are good alternatives to Gosling aswell

Interested to see the age range they go for Richard & Sam (the latter may likely be a teenager)

Cool , certainly makes sense to see them again!!,

I thought both this version of Irani Rael and Rhomann Dey were fine in the first Guardians so it would be good to have them & possibly even flesh out more.

I wouldn’t be surprised if atleast Dey survived but lost his wife & child along with the rest of the Cops , including Irani who would be in a flashback & such…

Anyway , hope we get an official announcement of the show soon!!.

Fun fact:

Irani Rael in the comics has never been Nova Prime but was just a regular officer of the Nova Corps following the destruction of Xander.

Nova Prime in the comics was actually Rhomann Dey who actually gave Richard Rider his powers after Xander was destroyed and his wife & child were killed by Zorr , the rumored father of Nebula

Anyone think the Power Stone will be responsible for giving the Nova Corps their upgrade?.

It was with them the last we saw before IW I think so I wouldn’t be surrounded if perhaps in order to better combat threats like him ,Nova Prine decided to test the stone and see if her officers could withstand its powers

Perhaps as soon as they got a breakthrough in terms of a successful test subject , Thanos attacked and decimated them hence that test subject found Richard Rider who has perhaps been roaming the cosmos and finding new members , one of them being Sam.

Good, hope we get a flashback to Thanos wrecking the Corps since we never saw it onscreen.

Hopefully there’s a good reason for them to return. I’d think most of Nova was destroyed… at least half of them anyway. They got destroyed pre snap. Maybe flashbacks?

Agree 100% with a prior post: Xandar (while in possession of the Power-Gem) would run experiments to siphon it's energy to create their own version of a Super-Soldier and the cosmic-powered NOVA CORP would be created from it. Thanos attacks, Dey escapes with only one canister of the Nova/Super-Soldier formula (now called the "Nova-Force") and eventually finds his way to earth and dies just as he bestows the Nova-Force to Richard. (Just like in the comics!) 🤓
