COMIC NEWS: Action Comics #1 Alternate Superman Cover

Most of you saw the most recent cover, which paid homage to the first Action Comics #1, by having Superman lift a car up over his head. Well, this is the other version, the one that didn't make the cut. Take a peek.

Grant Morrison just a few days ago came out and revealed that this version of Superman would resemble Bruce Springsteen in spirit and beliefs. Since I don't listen to the Boss that often I'll take him at his word. From that point of view I'll guess Superman is voting democratic.

Besides his inner beliefs, let's focus on the visuals. This style of Supes is much more blue collar. No more red briefs over the tights, which is fine, but now it appears as though Supes likes himself some denim. How do you guys feel about a Superman who wears a Canadian Tuxedo?

Grant Morrison - Writer (quotes courtesy of nypost)
"This is a young Superman who still believes a better world for everyone is possible," said writer Grant Morrison

"We felt it was time for the big adventures of a 21st-century Paul Bunyan who fights for the weak and downtrodden against bullies of all kinds, from robot invaders and crime lords to corrupt city officials," said Morrison, a former "X-Men" writer.

"The new look reflects his status as a street-level defender of the ordinary man and woman."

I like the fact they're bringing back the Hero of the Oppressed attitude back. The Costume works for it but I'm sure us fans would appreciate some sort of "test costume" that is the old 30's or 40's or even the classic suit

As opposed to a slightly older Superman who now thinks the world sucks and won't get any better? I must have missed THAT version.

The premise of the comic sounds pretty good.

But who in the world accepted that costume?!?!? WTF is that?!? He has a giant handkerchief for a cape! It's smaller than Supergirl's cape! He looks like an idiot! If they wanted to make him look more like a civilian than they need to either lose the cape or make it longer. This look is laughable.

I really hope the original costume comes in later in the series. This comic actually sounds really good. The artwork is good too, hopefully they don't keep this look for long.
