Has Warner Brothers/DC Found a way to Beat Marvel to the Tiny Yet Mighty Punch?

While watching a random episode of Batman Beyond (S3 Ep7), that occurred to me… “F****** Warner Brothers!”.... With the inclusion of Ray Palmer, a.k.a “Atom”, played by Brandon Routh, WARNER BROTHERS and DC are able to get a leg up on MARVELl on the “Size” power territory`. With MARVEL’s, Ant-Man (starting America’s favorite buddy, Paul Rudd) not due out until July 17, 2015; DC has a chance to corner the market on a hero uses size to his advantage, when Arrow return next week.


Granted.... yes… the way WB operates, there will just be a tongue-in-cheek jokes made about shrinking, with a wink and a nod to the camera. Then, nine years later, we’ll see the Atom suiting up and showing what he’s made of for all of two seconds… Just as MARVEL is wrapping up Phase 5... Ok, that might be a little bit dramatic. While it may only be the civilian ego of Palmer that viewers are first introduced to, it is has been confirmed for a while, that we will get the Atom his season! Whether that is on Arrow, or The Flash however,  still remains to be seen.


Surely I’m not the first person to think of this… I’m looking at you Warner Brothers…. With nine months until we get the MCU’s newest hero, WB has a chance to do what I think FOX has (potentially) done to Marvel already, introduce a likeable version of a character first.  If this trend continues (and I haven’t become some sort of CBM conspiracy theorist), Warner Brothers/DC,FOX, and yes, maybe even SONY; could chip away at the originality that usually sets MARVEL apart… Together they could push


What do you think? Was there any thought to include Atom this season? Has MARVEL monopolized the market of CMB’s so much that the other studios have to result to releasing their properties, based on MARVEL’s release schedules, but faster?

Good read for your first article. Anyone that thinks Arrow would take any money from Ant-Man is fooling themselves. I think that WB has learned from their Clark Kent mistake and that is why Smallville Season 11 exists and why Flash and Arrow wear their suits in the pilots. I honestly get the feeling that they are going to use a modified version of the New 52 Ray Palmer. However it would not surprise me if we see someone else like Metamorpho (Who has been heavily hinted at) come around before the Atom suits up. Just a note though, DC created the absolute worst version of Superhero ever with Geo-Force (Brion Markov) in season one, hopefully Palmer doesn't end up the same.

i think you got a point. but its important to note however that dc created the atom first. and a year after he was relaunched in 1961, in 1962 marvel released there own version of the character.

its a shame that these things are not highlighter. characters like quicksilver which is basically a rip off of the flash even the lightning streaks on the costume was copied from original flash. or thanos which Jim starlin happily admits was "inspired" by thanos but yet is paraded all over the MCU.

Tonytony- both companies copy each other it happens everywhere DC came 1st so marvel has naturally copied them more but DC has also copied marvel th best example i can think of is Namor and aquaman.

anyway i dont think introducing the atom in arrow will affect ant man at all just like i dont think introducing quicksilver in DOFP will affect AOU.

But when will Ray Palmer be introduced in Arrow? When he is, he isn't gonna suit up. They don't even know when he will. On the other hand, Ant-Man might come out next year, but some people still know about it, especially if they begin marketing a lot earlier.

I don't watch Arrow it's too different from the Green Arrow source material, however i am looking forward to The Flash, everything i've read i can identitify from The Flash source material. I'm also looking forward to Constantine, i want to see the darker gritty side of DC which involves the supernatural and the mystic.

As some one pointed out, when will Ray Palmer suit up? It would have been better if the appearance of Ray Palmer would have been the perfect opportunity for Ray Palmer to become the Atom in his first appearance, Atom could have beat Ant-Man to the punch of a shrinking hero. Guess it's just missed opportunity.

DC already beat Marvel to the punch with the Atom technically.

Even if Palmer did suit up before Antman on screen I don't think it would make a big impact anyway. Arrow is a comic book fan's show, it doesn't really cater to the general audience as much.

The way DC can beat Marvel to the punch is by making consistently great movies while Marvel releases sub par movies. Will it happen? Maybe. It's possible, but I can't see the future.

The problem is Marvel is still making fantastic movies. WB would have to make all their films like TDK if they want to be consistently better

As a fan of Marvel, I can admit they've released some shitty movies, but they were on point in 2014. The first Iron Man is still their best though.

TV doesn't matter, though.
Most people going to the theater don't watch Arrow or AoS, so there's no beating to the punch.

Quicksilver was definitely an instance of beating to the punch, but only in the effects because the character wasn't developed in any meaningful way.

@mancalledsting You are right. I was so excited to post, that I lost myself... I didn't stop to read and revise. Even as I write this, I am thinking about editing and updating... But no! I shall leave it as a reminder to myself and others, that my fitst was not perfect.
