COMIC BOOK MOVIE: The Problem With SPOILERS Being Mentioned On The Site

COMIC BOOK MOVIE: The Problem With SPOILERS Being Mentioned On The Site

Within the past few months, I've noticed a slight pattern that has been practiced involving some pretty major spoilers on the site that I hope doesn't become a usual thing on the site; this site is a very useful and informative site, but this pattern could become a potential problem for the viewing experience of others.

Editorial Opinion

Firstly, I'd like to acknoweldge that this site has been up for a while and longer than I've been on the site, myself. I really praise this site for it's primary focus being on that of comic book movies and other related stuff and how it gives people the right to have their say in the site through the ability to post articles themselves and contribute news to it's readers; an ability that even some of the most popular sites do not give to their readers. However, there is a slight inconsistency that I noticed on the sight that has been going on for the past months that I don't want to become a common habit.

Basically, what I'm proposing is that some of the editors and users should be a bit more subtle and muted with some of the spoilers that are presented on the site; not in the articles, but on aspects such as the article's teaser images, etc. An example of what I'm talking about involves this image:

Now, this isn't exactly the greatest way to purposely leave those who choose not to read the article with mysteriousness and the avoidance of such spoilers and I think almost any comic book/comic book movie fan doesn't have to read to article to know how it's going to play out, especially just by looking at the image. There was another incident a while back that involved a character's death in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, but I won't go in to too much detail on that.

So, I'm not proposing that the site should transition to an anti-spoiler-type site, I'm just saying to be a little less obvious of spoilers where spoilers shouldn't be at on the site. If this request can be taken with seriousness, I'd really appreciate, as I really enjoy the features and concept of the site and how it's different from all those other sites.

For those taking the time to read this, I'd like to thank you.

Some of the the things spoiled on this site have been just [frick]ing ridiculous. You can't avoid them, they're just plastered everywhere. Things need to change.

spoilers are annoying as shit.

And specially the pictures on the articles spoil it. For example when they posted: " Will [SPOILER] DIE IN AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON?" and the article picture was Quicksilver's poster so... I would have been spoiled.

If you don't want to be spoiled, you shouldn't be viewing a news site. For all the grief you people give him, Josh Wilding isn't responsible for you spoiling yourself.

That's a stupid statement and I'm pretty sure you'd be complaining if your statement were to backfire on you. And spoiler warnings are pretty prominent on news sites, such as this. We don't spoiler ourselves, we just read the title and see the image, which spoils it for us when we don't even click the article.

I've been saying this since 2013.

I love all of the editors and writers here but at times it's literally impossible to avoid spoilers when you see spoilery images in thumbnails before you even click on the article. Honestly, I would say just avoid the site, but many people (including myself) love the site which is why I guess we try to voice our opinions in regards to these things.

However, The editors cutting back on the spoilery images and post will only cause more users to blabber about it in threads. They should create a spoiler option where you can hide your text so that people won't know specific details and etc.

Basic logos or question marks for Thumbnails would be the smartest choice! :)

I like having custom thumbnails, but yeah, I can agree with you on the main page stuff.

I've avoided the site every time a CBM is released internationally before I get a chance to see it.
I'll probably stop checking out the site next week until after May 1st.

The worst habit users have is plastering spoilers in the comments section of unrelated articles!! wtf people.

I don't have any issue with the editors articles, unless the spoiler is right in the thumbnail picture or headline.

I guess I should clarify. I agree that for the images and titles, they should leave the spoilers ambiguous. Hell, I had a major Walking Dead death spoiled for me because it was plastered on the huge front page slide thing. I agree that the editors should be more careful about it. But when it comes down to it (and this especially applies to Wilding since he's generally treated like shit on this site), you can't really blame the editors for doing their job. Or at least, you shouldn't burn them at the stake for it. I realize that you aren't doing that, but the majority of people on this site do.

Unfotunately this is one the reasons I try to avoid this site when movies are coming out. We have ridiculous users that will plaster them on articles that have nothing to do the movie(IM3). then the editors will post spoiler pics on the cover giving us the exact spoiler we were trying to avoid. I love this site but I have to train myself to stay away from it. Especially that AOU is coming out.

Well said! It's fine to post them, but try to make it a little less obvious in the headline

@TheAbaryMan369

Well, I don't know the last time you've been on the site, but the image was on the main page in the slideshow (y'know, the biggest thing on the page and the first thing you see on the site) that's always present above User Picks, so I assumed pretty much everyone saw it; my bad if you didn't see the huge, blatant image on main already.

@Sleeper

I always ignore that completely because I knew from past experiences on this site that spoilers always show up there. I never read the headlines in the slideshow.

I feel strongly about this ...I even emailed the owner.

Hi Nate, I (like other users of this site) get a bit freaky about visiting your fantastic site when there are big CBMs coming out.

I love reading the articles and feedback from users but actually watching the movie as the director intends without knowing the big reveals is what true CBM lovers really want.

You guys do your best to warn of spoilers but I reckon you lose traffic to your site at during these times.

Have you ever considered having a SPOILER-free supplimentry site to CBM? I dont know how it works but if you could put some filter on the articles/comments that reveal details people dont want to see.

Then I could come to you site each day and enjoy the latest news and opinions without ruining the whole reason we come here...and you would not lose visitors.

Just a thought
