My Review of 1872 #1

    Now lets get into the story, there's a lot to be had here in this first issue as we meet a number of characters. There's also a few names being thrown around that make you never forget your in the Marvel Universe. Now let me point out that the Valley of Doom is a decent size map that you get to see on the first double page spread in the book, this story so far mostly takes place in the town of Timely. Its narrated by Ben Urich and hes still a reporter, we get a bit of back story and snippets of what hes been through over the years and towards the end of the book we learn there's going to be more we find out about him in the next few issues of this arc. Timely was nothing more then a water hole until gold and silver was found on it, the town then was led by none other then Wilson Fisk himself, and it sounds like he was once respected as a hero but now like normal with Fisk hes hated. Fisk is not the only one pulling the strings though Governor Roxxon is the man he answers to. The river of Timely was diverted for mining and now crossing the river is considered suicide to the locals, and that's when we are introduced to Redwolf who wants to blow the dam, to well basically better his people. Now we see Sheriff Steve Rodger's and Tony Stark who always has a drink in his hand,lol. That's when the story really opens up with lynchings and Sheriff Rodger's trying to bring law and order into the town. We get some great stuff from Stark as it seems he may have a few skeletons in his closet.

      The book closes out with a great page of a few more Marvel characters who will be coming into play that should put a nice smile on some faces. There's not much to complain about with this first issue, its one of the only Secret Wars tie in's that I have read so far that begins with a map. Something that wouldn't hurt in a few other books. It's kind of a quick read but that's not exactly a bad thing as it gets right into the meat and potatoes of the story. I highly recommend giving this a shot, if you don't know much about Marvel history it shouldn't affect the overall story at all. Secret Wars so far has been great and I really feel like Marvel just let the the creators tell story's they want to tell without getting overly involved. So i'm sure this is going to be a great story. Time will tell if I'm going to be looking for more western marvel when this concludes, for now I'm all in on this.
