DC Comics is celebrating the 1000th issue of Action Comics and the 80th anniversary of Superman with several retailer-exclusive variant covers, and a comic shop in Clermont, Florida is the first to announce their limited-edition covers.

Mike Jones, owner of The Uncanny Comic Shop, said in a press release that he is teaming up with DC to bring two exclusive covers to his store. The covers will be drawn by DC veteran Tony S. Daniel, who has worked on Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman in the past. Jones says that he is thrilled by this addition, stating the following:

“We are could not be happier that Tony has agreed to help us in creating our first-ever exclusive retailer variant cover and we are excited to be able to witness this great milestone in comic book history.”

Comic shops across the United States will be getting their own exclusive covers for the landmark issue, and this isn't the only way DC is celebrating this milestone.

It was announced earlier this year that Superman's red trunks would make a comeback for Action Comics #1000. Also, Superman director Richard Donner and DC chief creative officer Geoff Johns will be penning a story for the issue, in addition to longtime Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis.

The issue, along with the exclusive cover, is available for pre-order now and will be released in stores and online on April 18, coinciding with the anniversary of Action Comics #1 's release date.

Dilly Dilly to the trunks, but I'm hoping its only for Action Comics #1000. I kind of like the Rebirth suit which to me is the perfect blend of traditional and contemporary.

@TheLight - I agree, Rebirth suit with the blue boots is great looking

@TheLight - Yeah that's the best they are going to get when it comes to a similar color balance. I'm 100% on board with that costume too, anything but the red trunks. I will admit I wasn't a fan of the armor-look from N52 but still, it was better than underwear.

@TheLight - Personally, I feel the lack of trunks throws off the suits design substantially. I welcome it's return.

1000 issues and 80 years on his back. And Superman's comics are probably stronger than ever.
Don't mess this up, Bendis.

My guess is Bendix will be writing the story where Superman gets his new red panties.

I love specific Superman stories like Birthright, but I've never been able to get into following the main series. However, issue 1000 is an event too significant to pass up.

@BIGBMH - I'm in the exact same boat. Never followed any of his ongoing series but All-Star Superman is up there with the likes of Watchmen and Kingdom Come, personally.

Whomever is the next producer/director for the Superman film, they just need to watch the video below starting at 1:56. That's all you need to know about Superman. Period. Start from that idea, and you'll be just fine.

With idiot Bendis involved is just the reason NOT to buy the book. Even Kevin Feige wanted nothing to do with Bendis and the so-called "Marvel Creative Committee".
