BLADE RUNNER: BLACK LOTUS Comic Takes Place After The Anime Series; Issue #1 Hits Shelves This Week

Sometimes a film is so beloved that it spawns storytelling in other mediums, such as Blade Runner: Black Lotus. In this case, the anime has led to another spin-off, with a comic dropping this week!

Blade Runner had a significant impact on the film industry when it was released back in the '80s. Despite the many movies, shows, books and comic inspired by the timeless classic, such as Ghost in the Shell and Gattaca, the extension of the Blade Runner universe doesn't stop there.

Recently, Toonami and Crunchyroll released a series titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus, bringing the franchise into the anime genre. The show features Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist), Stephen Root (Get Out), and Will Yun Lee (Altered Carbon), who we spoke to when the series premiered.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus was so well received that Titan Comics is releasing a direct sequel to the anime. The first issue hits comic shops this Wednesday, and there is a trailer to give fans some idea of what to expect from the new series.

The official synopsis reads as follows. "Elle, aka Black Lotus, hoped she could leave behind her violent past and find a new life. But is that possible in a world where replicants are still hunted and feared?"

What do you guys think? Will you be checking out the comic this week to see what happens after the anime?

Check out our video interview with Blade Runner: Black Lotus stars Jessica Henwick, Stephen Root, and Will Yun Lee below.

Blade Runner: Black Lotus Issue #1 lands in comic shops this Wednesday, August 8th.

@bkmeijer1 - It just premiered not that long ago, I'm surprised you didn't see my post! It was Toonami and Crunchyroll. Henwick was so nice during the interview and so were the others, it was awesome.

@LiteraryJoe - @bkmeijer1
The show seemed to draw criticism mainly for the character design and animation. Apparently 3d cgi is a hard sell in the anime community.
Luckily I don't care about such things and thought the show was pretty good with some room to improve upon of course. It's why I'm excited for the comic series to continue the story.

@LiteraryJoe @mdwilliamson24 - don't always pick up on everything, but now that I have I will probably give it a watch soon too.

Don't really care for design and animation either.
