Who loves Batman? Everyone, that's who. No one on earth hasn't heard of the Caped Crusader (wish the same could be said about CapedCruVader), but only a small percentage have experienced some of the best Batman stories, held in the pages of comic books. But which ones would work for film and television? In this list, we'll find out. Please note: I've left out such classics as The Dark Knight Returns and Year One as they are a fairly obvious choice.

5. Under The Red Hood

Yeah I realize it's been done as an animated film, but just imagine this epic story filled with a Shakespearean amount of loss and tragedy. Its an awesome tale that could be done as a prequel to Batfleck, as he will be an older Batman in Dawn of Justice.
Adaption choice - Film

4. Batman Reborn

I love everything about this book. The art, the writing, the banter between Batman and Robin, who in this are Dick Grayson and Damien Wayne. I could see this as a futuristic sci-fi show done by HBO or maybe Netflix. It has awesome ideas such as the Batmobile that converts into an aircraft. It has lesser known villains such as Professor Pyg and if the series was scripted by Grant Morrison, it would be awesome. Imagine supernatural, but instead of Sam and Dean, it's Batman and Robin. They could tour in the car a lot looking for trouble, and make the show more character driven. Also, make Jared Padalecki Dick Grayson!
Adaptation: Television

3. Cacophony/Widening Gyre/Bellicosity

The incomplete trilogy written by Kevin Smith and drawn by Walter Flanagan, this series is still in need of it's third installment: Bellicosity, which promises a very epic finish to the romantic, tragic and horrifically dark Batman tale. Kevin Smith is probably one of the largest Batman fans alive, and his portrayal of the character in this tale does not disappoint. He is also a writer with a collection of great films (Clerks and Mallrats being cult classics) under his belt. He could pull of a Batman trilogy with this epic plot.  (Remember at one point he was penning a Superman film)
Adaptation: Film

2. Death of The Family

Arguably the most famous of the New 52 runs so far, a Death of The Family was the gruesome return of everyone's favorite crazed psychopath. It's dark, it's gritty and it gets into your head. With a brilliant cast of characters and visuals, this would work great as a Netflix mini-series.
Adaptation: Television

1. A Serious House on a Serious Earth

Why has no one done a Batman horror film yet? The subject matter is certainly dark enough, and Grant Morrison's comic-book nightmare (I say that in the best way possible) is a good place to start. It would make for a brilliantly twisted Horror-Thriller that would bring fans in like nothing else before. "Batman? R rated? Hell yes!" Mainstream audiences of pre-teens wouldn't even have to see it, as Grant Morrison has revealed this is just his interpretation of Batman's worst Nightmare. I mean, just look at the Joker in this book.

Look at him, he's terrifying! He is the stuff of nightmares. Maybe an animation would work better with this adaptation, but I'm good with a CG face if the esthetic is properly pulled off.
Adaptation: Film

the real question is which writers and directors get him enough to be worthy of bringing him to the screen, Ive had enough of "writers and directors with their own vision".

If i were warner and looking to do a new batman trilogy

first film needs to introduce the bat family, I would like to see court of owls something very different but throw in some
villains as targets for the court such as cobblepot

Second do Batman:hush include the joker

thirdly under the red hood/arkham aslyum

I'm coming back to this in a bit. I want some good books to download from comixology. Hopefully the comments section fills up with good suggestions along with the ones in this article. Thumbed!

I have no doubt that Under The Red Hood will be adapted.

Get Andrew Garfield as Jason and we're all good.

Under the red Hood was for me the best animated movie, the last scene in live action i would cry

Jared Padalecki could be Dick Grayson, if you give him a black hair.

Is Under the Red Hood vastly different than the Animated film? Cause I have that movie. Loved the story and would be willing to pay for the book, unless it's exactly the same as the film.

I say UTRH most definitely, especially since they are going with an older Bruce.

A Serious House on Serious Earth would be incredible too. It could be like a mix of action and a psychological thriller. That would be a very interesting combo

How about none of the above? Better yet, how about actually coming up with original stories for the movies instead of just adapting a comic storyline?

@GliderMan a 45 year old Batman having Jason Todd as Robin...yea no

Why not do a Batman prequel with Jason Todd as Robin. I think showing Batman before he meets Superman is the easiest way to show Batman in his prime and avoid the question of why Batman deson't enlist Superman or any other hero's help.

@MrSotoMan I like having Grayson as the first Robin but I really like your idea and wouldn't mind the change. And the great thing is I think your idea could still fit in with my desire for a prequel film/ trilogy to Affleck's Batman meeting Superman

@HurricaneXavier Regarding Hush, I said no really iconic story lines. That includes Hush, should have mentioned that. My mistake :p. I'm afraid I haven't read Black Mirror yet but it is on my list. I was going for more obscure or recent titles, barring Serious House of course.
