Why Spider-Man joining the MCU is a Great!

So the news broke, and after months of speculation and years of hope, Spider-Man will finally be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe! This is fantastic! Not only for the sake of Spider-Man but also the MCU. Here are the reasons this will make our Marvel Movies better!

1. Spider-Man's Villains

The MCU has few weak points. In fact, it's hard to pinpoint what's bad about the movies. Until you consider the villains. Yeah, they're mostly iconic but they are inarguably forgettable. When you remove Loki from the mix, can you name any villain who has actually survived? No! This is mostly a problem with writing and direction, with more focus being given to our heroes rather than an equal amount to both the protagonist and antagonist. If the MCU get Spider-Man, then they should definitely take advantage of his rouges gallery, which, may I add is probably the only one in history to equal Batman's. Green Goblin, Venom, Carnage and Doc Ock just to name a few. Also, the news of a crossover makes me more excited for a Sinister Six movie, as it could mean a parade of villains for the Avengers to face.

2. Civil War Will Have More at Stake

Civil War is a fantastic storyline, and the fact that it's being adapted to the silver screen makes me more and more excited every day. The focal point of the story is the conflict between Iron Man and Captain America, but what is the most memorable shot from the book? Spider-Man taking of his mask. And now the MCU can do that! None of the characters in the MCU really have secret identities, bar upcoming characters like Ant-Man or Daredevil. Meaning that in the Civil War film when every superhero is forced to register with the government, Spider-Man revealing his secret identity will give the film higher stakes. Side note: Can we please have J.K Simmons back just for a reaction shot? Pretty please?

3. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was a mess

Not that it was awful, it was just a messy film. Sure it was sprinkled with a few impressive action set-pieces and good acting and chemistry, but the narrative structure of the film was... thrown together. It was suffering from Iron Man 2 syndrome in which it pushes out a movie just to advertise and get to the next movie. It's half decent and worth a watch, but the Green Goblin is a fairly sour let-down and a lot of the plot doesn't make sense. Spider-Man has never really interacted with other heroes on the silver screen, so it could make for a very fresh take. I want to hear is sarcastic quips about Thor's hair or Hulk's stupidity! Also, Marvel knows how film structure works as they don't see it in the same product churning way Sony does. TASM2 was more style than substance, without realising you need both for a great film. I don't know if I want a reboot, but I want a fresh start.

4.It could mean more in the future...

The Marvel Universe

I don't need it now, next week or next year. But one day I would love to see a complete MCU. By that I don't mean the over 40'000 characters that have appeared in Marvel Comics, but just the big wigs. Avengers, Spider-Man, X-Men, Fantastic Four etc. Who doesn't want this? I don't know how (Parallel universes? Alternate Dimensions?) but I want it. It's a first world problem for sure, but it's annoying to not have all of the Marvel characters in one franchise. It's a dream I hope to see come true.

So there you go, my opinion on Spider-Man in the MCU. What do you think? Post your opinion in the comments below!

Using a different angle would be better.......like revealing himself to Iron Man and Cap only...

@ MarkyMark

He's not away from Sony at all. Sony still has final creative control over Spidey films. Sony and Marvel are basically just sharing their universes with each other. Sony hasn't gone anywhere.

it would be stupid to unmask spidey in civil war after all this isant about secret identities it's about the goverment wanting some form of control over the heroes.

Reavealing his secret identity wouldn't have barely any weight at all. Because he's not big enough in the MCU for the people to care a lot, and the audience knows he's Peter Parker sho no one will care.
