SDCC '10: Mark Ruffalo Briefly on Portraying Hulk in The Avengers

The Kids Are Alright actor Mark Ruffalo speaks with the LA Times very briefly on what it's like feeling in as the new Green Goliath Hulk in The Avengers.

Before Robert Downey Jr. "demanded" that we appreciate the introduction of the latest actor to take over the role of the Incredible Hulk 'Mark Ruffalo', backstage Geoff Boucher of LA Times | Hero Complex caught up with the actor. Briefly before facing the hundreds of SDCC attendees, Ruffalo seemed dazed and enthused saying...

"It's like 'Hamlet' or 'Romeo and Juliet,' a new actor gets a crack at it every year," Ruffalo said with a chuckle. "But really it's all heady stuff. It's exciting to be here. It's great to be a part of all this."

With Tony Stark's approval, the SDCC audience gracefully applauded for their new Bruce Banner as he joined the stage of the official cast. The cast which includes Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), and Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye).

And Joss Whedon in the director's chair, production begins on The Avengers early next year. And our Earth’s Mightiest Heroes assemble on the silver screen May 4, 2012.

If Mr. Whedon thinks he's the man for the job, then i'm ok with it. (even though Norton was excellent)

I think norton did a great job as banner in his version...but 2 be honest i think ruffalo will bring a diff dynamic 2 the character....norton played a banner that was constantly trying 2 controle and figure out a way 2 beat/ get rid of the hulk...i think ruffalo will do a better job at showcasing the weaker exausted depressed apoligetic side of banner...a more emotional banner...i think honestly we will see a side of banner that we were kinda missing in TIH

Does Robert Downey Jr has something against Chris Nolan? He trashes TDK, said "[frick] DC and [frick] Dark Knight" now he brings up Inception for no goddamn reason other than to water it down by saying his upcoming film will be the "most ambitious"

I bet Ruffalo had to Dress Like a Vampire and Sleep in the Same Bed With Whedon to get the roll of Banner :) Still a Terrible Choice for BANNER! Im still angry and you wouldn't like me when im angry!

Judging by his brilliant performances in movies like Zodiac and Shutter Island, Ruffalo will do an amazing job.

'Nuff said! :)

Should have been Sharlto Copley. But whatever, there are plenty of other things to distract me from Ruffalo.

Zodiac Was Boring Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr. were the only reason to watch that movie and Leonardo DiCaprio Ruled Shutter Island, I don't understand why people are defending a FAT Banner!

@cchriswake13- just read the article wow rdj's an as$hol3. he seems like he was jealous that dark knight had more hype n made more $ than ironman did. i like rdj but hes too full of himself.

I'm not sure about Mark Ruffalo, for me it's a bad choice...

Joker08

@jok3rsc0usin/cchris/mattMardock: RDjr is clearly jealous - how can anyone 'not get' what TDK is about? He describes the film as not making any sense - and goes on to say:

"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart."

???? How does that even make sense? The guy is one of my alltime favorite actors, and I still think he deserved an Oscar for Zodiac... But the guy is clearly trashing TDK for getting more attention than his film...

Shutter Island was horrible but it's not his fault the movie sux. He's an okay actor he'll do fine or they will cast another one next time around.

I love RDJ's comments towards Nolans films, I mean I loved TDK and really can't wait to see Inception but Ilove RDJ a shit load more...he's my man crush ffs!! He can say whatever he likes, he's freakin Iron Man!!

I'll say it once more. The man said, and I quote:

"My whole thing is that that I saw 'The Dark Knight'. I feel like I'm dumb because I feel like I don't get how many things that are so smart."

@tea: Yeah - especially here, i've noticed alot of the DC fans are brutal when it comes to Marvel...

theres a big diff between a fan and an actor playing 4 the other team...seems like he has a lil beef against dc...maybe be4 iron man DC turned him down??...would be interesting 2 look in2 :)

Robert Downey jr. has a VERY dry sense of humour...maybe a little bit of "professional" jealousy but i think what he was saying is supposed to be tongue in cheek...and if it was'nt...well i'm sure Chris Nolan has'nt spent many nights crying himself to sleep on his pillow.
As for Mark Ruffalo...i'm more than happy to give him a fair crack of the whip i think he'll give us a good if not great Bruce Banner and i'm not going to let a small thing like this ruin what's looking to be an epic movie...lets save our venom for IF he ruins it
